How do guys get so big in prison?

I've never been to prison but from what I've heard you can't exactly eat whatever you want whenever you want. I worked with a guy over the summer who went to prison for 7 years and he had pretty big arms. Not a cut guy but about 5'8" 215. He said he mostly did bodyweight exercises. So how the hell are these guys getting so big without supplements and all that other stuff?

but steroids are only beneficial if your eating loads and lifting properly?

he was probably quite big in the first place i.e not an ectomorph. and i know in here its probably described as overtraining but if you done hundreds of press ups chin ups every day for seven years your bound to get bigger

the ones you see in the films where their 200lbs and ripped as **** probably dont exist unless they were like that when they went to prison

I work in a prison and there are guys that are just ripped up. They basically get all the carbs they want and are limited on the amount of protiens they can have during the meals, But they are able to buy protien of the canteen. By no means are they clean bulking but they have and can get what they need. Alot of the inmates around here have no idea about proper lifting and there are a lot of injurys do to that.

Yep, it's preceded by dropping the soap in the bathroom My uncle works at a prison in Southern Idaho, they exercise the able inmates two-three times a week outdoors in the morning with basic running/jogging or sometimes athletic games such as football/basketball/soccer. But i'm sure very few take the initiative to do this on their own.
    Unaffiliated.

Even without ideal nutrition, if you had absolutely nothing else to do all day than train, you would be huge too. I mean it IS overtraining, but hey, in when your locked in a cage what else is there to do. Plus, plenty of rest and alot of guys prolly come in with some lifting expiernce.

Out in the main yard there is a track to run on but you see most inmates doing step ups on the bleachers and in there cells. They also do burpies, and I have seen inmates do thousands of these at a time. So ya most of them overtrain but like someone said all they have is time and lots of rest.

Perhaps neccesity entails the brain to release a chemical that stimulates proetein synthesis, similar to the release of adrenelin in crisis situations. Think about it, If you were faced with the option of either bulking up quickly or becoming the prison ass slave, I think you'd do whatever it took to accomplish your goal.

Simple. People who dont train right or dont eat right can still gain muscle. It just happens a lot slower. We do the things we do because we want to put on the most amount of muscle possible in the shortest amount of time. We are looking for efficiency, and optimization. Now, look at a guy who has been in jail for 10 years. Thats a long freaking time, that if you were to consistently work out, you would put on loads and loads of muscle, so long as you were doing basic muscle stimulating exercises on a somewhat regular basis.

To me, consistency is the most important factor in building muscle anyway.
