You gotta keep the bar close so maybe you might bump into your knees sometimes.

I don't think it's necessary to keep the bar that close to your body that it scrapes. I've never scraped my shins or knees when deadlifting ever.

your lowering the bar wrong when you come down if -the spot right above your knee? not actually on the knee cap am i right?- your knee gets bruised. Bend the hips back first and extend down from the waist and only bend the knees after the bar passes them
    275lb atg front squat / 235lb paused bench (in comp) / 445lb Conventional Deadlift using mixed grip/chalk/belt (in comp) / Deadlift-425x3 using a hook grip + chalk / BP low-bar back squat 335x2 & 315x4 & 350x1 (in comp)

A tree with a thin trunk can only make branches so big -me

Won 1st place at my first powerlifting comp!!!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!1

Finally someone read the original post!!

    Excellent advice!!

Hips back first, as you drive the hips back the bar with lower and your shins/knees will move back out of the bar path.

Your form on the concentric (lift) could be just fine. It sounds like you're having trouble at the end, with lowering the bar. Just make sure that shooting the hips back is the first movement when you go to lower the bar back to the floor.

Also, I try to remember to wear trackpants when I'm supposed to deadlift.

no its just to prevent having your knees get all bruised lol i did the same thing when i first started and i had huge 2 inch bruises on my knees.Ive fixed form since then. And yes lowering it the right way puts your hips where they need to be but it wouldnt hurt your back lowering it like youve been doing, unless you do slow negatives or something. dont do deadlift negatives, bad idea. Lower it fast and under control but dont slam the weight back down

he means dont try to lower it really slow. Lower it under control but dont try to lower it really slow

the "negative" part of any lift is the lowering phase

its just supposed to be a little dangerous. I have done it somewhat though and never had a problem. I have also done negatives with more weight than I could pick up but its generally not recommended

u keep asking "what would happen if this or that" or "am I hurt"

dude, if u were hurt ud know it, lol

Ive hurt my back a little deadlifting or doing stuff like jump shrugs..trust me, I knew it pretty much right away

how did you do negatives with more weight than you can pick up, if you cant pick it up?? The only way i can think of would be to have 2 ppl lift the ends of the bar up and then you step in and grab onto it
