Do you have buttons on the front of the monitor to change the settings ?

Most if not all monitors list the Hz, on one of the options. Or check the paperwork that came with it.

right-click on the desktop, go to properties, settings, and then advanced in the right-corner. you can see a selection of the maximum hertz. most lcds don't go over 80 hertz at 1024x768 resolution.

It should say in your monitors documentation, or visit the LG website, find your monitor on the site and view the specs.

60 HZ, can HTZ ZIE EYES!
No 60 HZ can be hard on the eyes, especially when sat at your comp for hours playing games or what have you, 75 HZ is better, but IMO you want to set the refresh rate at least 85 HZ.

It means how many times your monitor draws the "picture" a second. If it is 60 hertz it redraws 60 times per second, or if it's 75, 75 times per second. Kind of like movies and the frames per second. So the difference would be 15 redraws a second. Sometimes you just have to change it, to really understand.

If you do decide to change it, make sure the "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" button is checked, otherwise you risk ruining your monitor.

For those who know more than I do, would puting it on a higher refresh rate affect the life of the monitor?

thanks for the reply. I understand the hertz now.

Another question. I have a tuner/capture card on my PC. Its a Pinnacle one, I can watch TV on my monitor, how come this is not the quality as normal TV. I know it depends on the signal frequency of the antenna.

Does my 19inch 75hertz LCD flat panel while watching TV from my PC be the same as buying a 19inch LCD TV
i'd rather be on the track

Your television is a much lower resolution than your monitor. So the picture is going to be smaller, when viewed on your monitor. If you take the smaller picture and blow it up, you'll probably notice it is pretty blocky. That's because the signal is coming in at a low resolution, and you are blowing it up to a higher resolution.

If you don't understand, the best way I can describe it is by this: Open up paint, and draw a line. Now click on the magnifying glass, and zoom into the line. You'll notice the line is not the same, it is blocky, just like the blown up picture from your TV. When you are not zoomed in, that would be like watching it on your TV, but zoomed in is like watching it on your monitor.

You can always lower your screen resolution, and the picture may appear to look better, but infact you are just lowering the quality of your monitor, to compare with the low quality TV signal.
