I'm possibly gonna get a power tower myself, and from reading around the boards, I see two things immediately that annoys some people. 1) is that the pull up bar isn't a continuous bar, rather, it's two individual short bars. This was a gripe with some because you can't do close grip pull ups. 2) the fact that you do pull ups between the dip bars rather than behind the machine. Some found themselves feeling confined, but on the other hand, this design saves floor space.

I'm personally deciding between the doorway gym or a power tower. If I get a power tower, I'm gonna go to Dicks to test them out and just get the cheapest one that feels solid and sturdy.

I work at Dick's part time in the fitness department and would not recommend the power tower if you plan on using any additional weight to do dips or pullups. It's not a sturdy piece of equipment. The dip handles are very thin metal IMO.

This is the one I have in my home gym and it's awesome. I've done dips with an additional 100lbs and it doesn't budge.

No, it's not. It's junk. There's ZERO support under the dip handles/elbow rest pads. It mightbe ok for supporting your weight on the elbow pads, but doing weighted dips on those dips handles will put an enormous strain on that thing. It looks like it only connects to the vertical tubing with 2 bolts on each side. Look at the pic of the Body Solid unit and notice that extra support arm at a 45 degree angle. That adds a world of difference to the weight bearing load those main arms can take. I'd avoid that Weider unit like the plague.

I got a separate dip station amd built my own pullup bar. I'm glad I did as the two seem to work better than any of these combined solutions.

If I were to get one of the units however, I've used the lamar one and it is very nice:
