Buy the book, " Strength Training for Women" by James and Susan Peterson. It should give you the basic knowledge needed to get started.
Also, be sure that this is something YOU want to do, not because of or to please someone else.

Just make sure you are eating healthy (that doesnt mean dieting) and have fun. If you enjoy cardio, do cardio. If you enjoy weights, do weights...You're too young to worry too much about the logistics because you still have a lot of growing and changing to do.
What kind of gym do you go to? Does it have classes? If so, try some of those. Ive noticed a lot of younger girls in the Zumba and Step classes and they are really fun and good for you at the same time.
Also, do you do any sports? Thats how most women get into fitness to begin with. Good luck and have fun!

I am essentially the same size now that I was at age 12. With a few more pounds of muscle of course!
And to the OP: Women can train exactly the same as men do. So if you're going to the gym with your dad and he's a bodybuilder, then you can do the same exercises that he does. You'll just use lower weights.
My number one piece of advice would be that you should take the time to educate yourself. Read up on proper nutrition, training, and rest & recovery. The stickies are great for that.

nooo bad idea, 13 year old girl going into teen section? Enter at your own risk imo =p
you'll just get a bunch of immature wanks saying "piitb" and "jailbait".
Much better advise on this park of the forum, just have to wait longer for it.

Oh wtf.
You're that same guy who PM'd my girl arobot and I to tell us how impressive our bodies are and that our arms are bigger than some guys. You in particular. Built like an 8-year-old girl n' all (serious).
Maaan you creepy. Go back under the bridge where you belong, little man.
And to the OP, I read your profile and was a little surprised to read " Why I Love It: I don't love it..". I'll let you know right now that getting in shape and being fit requires dedication and consistancy. Why do something you don't really enjoy and just half-ass it while expecting bomb-ass results?

Actually some people can get away with doing it half-assed and get bomb-ass results. *shrugs* plus she is 13 so no one can really expect her to go full out into this.
Find your own pace and your own comfort zone. Some people like to push their limits but if your not one of those people then do what you think is best for you. Your 13. xD hell when i was 13 i was drinking 2 liters of no-name pop and 6 donuts every lunch. lol (btw do NOT fall into my bad habits) xD

There is no difference between how women train and how men train...bodybuilding is FAR more individual than that. There are differences in how a beginner should train, though. Your dad's main focus in helping you out right now should be on teaching you proper form and how your muscles work together. Helping you out with a simple 3 day push-pull split would be a great way for your dad to illustrate how muscles work together and will break things up enough that you have time to focus on how the exercises feel without being overwhelmed.
Being at a healthy weight for your height, I wouldn't worry about the losing bodyfat (or cutting) aspect of bodybuilding at your age. Obviously cutting calories is not good for a developing body...and it's also counter-productive to building muscle. Focus on eating a variety of healthy foods (lots of fruits and veggies), making sure you get protein, carbs and fats with every meal and you'll be giving your body the nutrients it needs to build muscle. Eating more nutriciously than usual and spending time in the gym will have a positive effect on your body without you having to be strict about your diet.
Also, remember that the bodies people try to obtain through bodybuilding take years to acheive! So be proud of progress you make in every form...even if it's just learning new things. Starting at 13, you're going to have a leg up on most people.
Have fun at the gym!

I actually started lifting weights at her age, but yes, I do agree. And as far as getting great results from doing it half-assed, it's gotta be bomb-ass genetics.

what in the world are you talking about ? 5 foot 5 130 pounds? that's quite healthy. Actually the healthy range for a 13 year old girl who's 5 foot 5 is 95 to 140 pounds oh and fyi your the one at a unhealthy weight well at a very close to unhealthy weight...your only 1 pound above below weight.
