I'm no expert....
If you want to burn fat, you need to get your heart rate up. If that requires you to use an incline on a treadmill then that's fine. I have asthma so I can't job on a treadmill, but I do a brisk walk, and vary the incline to keep my heartrate between 145 and 150 (I'm 30yo).
Take care,
Aaron

incine not only increases the difficulty, but also works different muscles. i believe the more u incline the more your calves are worked, but its been a while since i used one of those fancy treads that have the electronic diagram of what muscle groups are being targetted. Its more complicated than just ur calves getting worked more though. If you wanna gain size with cardio work the best i can recommend is full blown sprints at 100% speed.

I do a 5 x a week cardio thst includes 45 minues brisk walk at a 10 degree incline and it has seemed to help me to lose some fat without change of diet.... the incline work is a lot different of a feel than when I try (not too often I am afraid) to run (still working on my heart)....
I notice a faster burn of calories and a better overall workout for the legs with a step machine, of all the cardio I do it seems most efficient. And the toughest... I cant do 45 minutes of step! 30 max.
