Depends on the fat and sugar content in them.

its main ingredient is maltodextrin and as i was educated the other day maltodexrin is absorbed just as readily and quickly as glucose so in a way its full of sugar not just six grams

Homemade weight gainers work great in my opinion, I'm drinking one right now. Mine contains
1/2 cups oats 5g protein, 27g carbs, 2.5g TF
1 bannana 1g protein, 25g carbs, 0g TF?
2 cups of milk 16g protein, 26g carbs, 0g TF
2tbsp peanut butter 8g protein, 7g carb, 16g TF
1 scoop whey 23g protein, 4g carb, 2g TF
cinnamon
Total: 53g protein, 89g carbs, 20.5g TF
You may want to add some walnuts or almonds: 1oz Almonds protein 6g,
5g carb, 16g TF

Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate not a simple sugar, it is utilized neither as readily or a quickly as glucose. The body has to break maltodextrin down to use it, it does not have to break down glucose. Maltodextrin releases energy over a long period of time, and prevents blood sugar spikes and insulin spikes that simple sugars cause.

Good stuff, but you have to use so darn much of it that it can get expensive quickly.

On the original topic:
if you want glutamine buy it separate, the amounts that they put into the mix compared with how much more they charge for adding it just is not worth it.
Keep it simple for pre and post workout!
Good luck!

chocolate mint is awsome. but just treat yourself to weight gainers every once in a while. make home made ones for a fraction of the price
