i've always wanted to do one of these and figured it would be something fun to do instead of my actual job.

i hear
if you order a bunch of non contractual accessories, such as internet, txt messaging, belt clip, etc etc
that you can lower the price of your contract, and then the next day just cancel all the rest of that stuff and be left with a cheap contract
also, is there a way to un-cripple bluetooth on VZW phones??
edit: and, is there a PC sync software for my a990??? bitpim wont workPound the fist of the Invisible Hand

i've never heared of being able to lower the actual contract price based on the number of add ons you have BUT we do make more money because of those add ons and are able to sell you the phone at a lower cost if we really wanted to. normally we dont do that just because no one really brings it up, if you really wanted to save a few bucks with the add ons the phone is where it would be.
the one thing i really hate about verizon is they want to make money off everything wether it's bluetooth or music. they've done a really good job at basically making it so you cant do much with your phone unless you pay for it. i have an lg vx8300 which works with bitpim so i've never really needed to go out and find another way to get past it, sorry.

it really depends on what you're looking to do with it. the 8700 is a solid all around phone, the 9400 has the tv but in my opinion has ****ty physical design. i think the enV is an awesome phone but i dont text much so it's kind of useless for me. as for the smartphones, i think they're really cool but at the sametime if you want to use the web and foward your email to your phone it' gonna cost you a decent amount of money.
like i said before though, it really comes down to what you really want out of your phone the most

honestly i havent had anyone complain about that phone at all. at the sametime it is still a pretty new phone and normally i really dont see many complaints until a few months after the phone is released. if you're having reception problems try dialing *228 on your phone and then pressing option 2. what it does is updates the tower list on your computer as new towers are always updated. it doesnt always work but it's worth a try

This is a dumb question...but I don't really need to keep up with email on my phone. However, I figured a smart phone would be the way to go to keep up with appointments, client lists, etc. Is there a general pricing plan for these phones that does not include internet access? Something like the regular plans?

i dont think you can just edit the wap settings on that phone without using something like bitpim. i did a search on what you'd have to do and here's what i found
1 First you have to make sure that you can edit your WAP settings. By default they are locked. It is remarkably simple to unlock them.
2 Connect to your phone using BitPim.
Click View > View Filesystem. This will add a filesystem link to the left pane. Click on it.
3 Navigate to /OWS in your filesystem. Right click on paramtable1.fil and save it to your hard drive. Keep an unmodified backup copy of this file in case something goes wrong.
4 Open your new copy of paramtable1.fil in a hex editor. A good Windows hex editor is XVI32 (http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...2.htm#download). A good OSX hex editor is 0xED (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ools/0xed.html). Change the third byte from "00" to "20". (Thanks to Rodstree for figuring this out.) Save the copy.
5 Right click on paramtable1.fil back in BitPim. Overwrite it with your new modified version.
6 Once the file is transferred, turn off and turn on your phone.
Now you have to update the wap settings to make them work with your proxy.
1 Press OK to open the menu on your phone. Press 0, and then six more zeros to open the service menu.
2 Press (8)WAP Setting
3 Under Proxy Address Setting and Proxy Port Setting, you'll find Primary and Secondary configurations. The Primary Address goes with the Primary Port, and likewise with the secondaries. Edit the Primary and Secondary settings with the gateways of your choice.
4 Change the Homepage to http://mobile.google.com or another suitable WAP homepage.
5 Voila! Access the Minibrowser. Free WAP!

i honestly dont know much about blackberrys, with that said, if your blackberry is able to pick up wi fi that might be one of the ways to get around the internet thing. as far as ringtones go, look into something called bitpim, i'm not sure if it supports your phone but it's worth a try
