military press rep range
Hey,
I've just started a 3 month program. December is for size, January for strength and finally Febuary is kind of the "clean up" month. I've already started December's workout but I'm still designing the next two and I have a question concerning the strength phase.
My January workout is a lot like a powerlifting routine; built around dead lift, squat and bench with low reps and heavy weights ect. But I was wondering what rep range I should use for the military press to gain the most power and strength. I think 8 would be best but I'm uncertain if that is too high. Can any one help me?

good rule of thumb to go by:
6-8reps: muscle hypertrophy (growth)
4-6: goodmix of hypertrophy and strength
1-3reps: absolute strength
try to incorporate all three at different times in your training...

I got the best results from 3-5 reps for military presses.Once I could get 5 reps, I would add 10 ibs and shoot for three. Here's a routine I have used in the past that uses singles.
3x5 (progressive warm ups)
3x1 (max effort)
3x5 (50 ibs less than max)
Once you can make all three singles and all three fives, add 5-10 ibs.Worked best when done once per week for around six weeks.BTW, how's the weather out there? We just moved from Phoenix in August.
