gene therapy
i just an article in scientific american about gene therapy and altering the human genetic code with a synthetic IGF-1 gene that only produces IGF-1 in skeletal muscle. its delivered im an attached to the harmless adeno-associated virus(this is a virus that affects human muscle with no ill side effects). the scientis believe its capable of producing a 20 to 40% muscle increase! there calling it AAV-IGF-1.
are steroids on the out? this is a very interesting read to say the least. does anybody has any info on this subject. is the 450lbs mr. "O" going to be in the near future?who knows

Cronus-
Here is a thread about similiar information you might find interesting which was posted a while ago on gene doping. The possibilities could be endless.

Gene doping is already here...just wait till 2008 games, i garentee records are gonna be smashed.
What this means for bodybuilders - from one point its a god given gift.. just think of the possibilities it has for us with minimal side effects (as known).
on the other hand your gonna get people whove never trained or eaten properly n havnt put the years in to grant usage of any enhancement...n get big all the same.
the way i see it...in the future guys who are "big" are just gonna be the norm n thats what i hate about this. i feel are sport is scientific n only the minority can get "big" n thats what i love about it...im different to so many "normal" people n thats the way i whant to keep it.
another good point of this would e to "enhance" are current army forces.
whats everyone elses opinion on this?

its seems to be mainly side effect free but who knows with rapid muscle gain 20-40%." Could a sprinter with this inflated musclature exert enough force to snap his bone of the line?"from the article. pretty cool stuff

I dont think there is any risk of that. It will take decades before such a thing would be affordable to "any punk".
I dont think people on the street will be selling such treatment like they now sell drugs and steroids.
Science will anyway change the norms all the way anyway.

also, im not sure the IFG-1 AAV is potentiated enough
look at people with giantitus, they have extreme rates of growth hormone and therefore IFG-1 because its a counterpart of growth.

But think about this...
Ok, this is all really cool (refering to the article), and if all this "no known side effects" stuff ends up being true, then this will start a scientific revolution in which many will be helped and enhancement will be commonplace. But, if you'll humor me for a sec, think about a semi-apocalyptic world where all our plentiful stores of food, and the building blocks for muscle, are scarce. You see, however much we don't like myostatin or love IGF-1, they each have their place, and it is for survival. If we were to genetically enhance a large part of the population, or even if we only used it for muscular dystrophy and other diseases, it may end up in our sex cells, which would then propagate to our kids. Over several generations of this happening we could very possibly end up with a super-human race, but a race that still needed food to support new muscle and tissue. Now any number of things happen to our food supply (agricultural disease, government sanctions, nuclear war/winter) which would then cut off the needed support for our jacked up kids. Without myostatin, muscle might not deteriorate and we would starve in a matter of days with our nutritional demands not being met. This could effectively end the human race in a matter of years, maybe months. Although most of this seems unlikely now, what was thought of cloning 100 years ago, or living to age 130.
I actually think this is very promising stuff, but to be used wisely. But, hey, who knows.

The funny thing is, is that alot of these animals (be it mice or the cows) experienced this muscle growth without a change in diet. Plus we still havebt found a way to regenerate other organs yet, so the thought of living past what we normally live to now is out of reach.
