is drinking whisky bad for cutting?

I'm a social drinker.......I have no probs bailing out on all cocktails, beers and all other alchohol drinks since most all will give me the chubs...but not whisky...love them JW blacks and blues..just wondering, will this hinder my shredding progress?

drinking will definitely hinder your shredding progress simply because of its caloric content.

The question is? BY how much

This depends on how much you drink.......saying your a social drinker is far too vague.

Indeed it will hinder your shredding progress. A good whiskey contains about 40% alcohol. If you drink about 150 ml per night, it mean you take in 60 grams of alcohol, i.e. 420 kcal extra. the alcohol is immediately oxidized by the liver and any other substrate is converted into bodyfat, thus theoretically 150 ml of whiskey results in a fat gain of about 50 grams. So limit the intake of alcohol!!!

Limit your intake and drink it straight or with diet mixers if you're going to drink.

Live a little. Moderation is the magic word, however. Hell, I have 1-2 drinks each day (wine for dinner, scotch or bourbon as my night cap), and I'm still pretty shredded. 5% BF for several years now. Here's a fun pic of half my bar (the top shelf liquors are in a glass cabinet).

Yay to alcoholism! (I have that blender!)

All in all, most ppl are going to really ruin their cutting diets with drinking, especially on a weekly (or daily, lol) basis.

It depends what you're cutting for .... for a contest, it's no question you have to skip the alcohol. If it's just to get back down after a bulking phase, then I say go for it, you're a long time dead and you don't want to be in the nursing home thinking "you know, a couple of drinks here and there really wouldn't have changed anything." It depends how important it is to you I guess.

I have a feeling you are drastically under-estimating your BF levels.

You are closer to 5% that most people that claim low BF numbers, lol. I would still estimate more like 7%, but estimates mean nothing, heh. You look like you could bulk up and end up with a great physique.

Bump just for anyone who thinks cutting alcohol 100% of their diet is COMPLETELY neccessary for cutting. If you want to live a little you can still drink in moderation and get cut.

when your cutting.........all alcohol is out of the question. end of story
