    Stalling with max weights

How many weeks before your bench (or squat or dead) starts to regress after using maximal poundages for the previous weeks?

i find i can only improve on my max for about 3 weeks(5lbs per week) before progress becomes impossible.

I can usually go 7-8 weeks seeing good strength gains every week but eventually i have to switch up the routine a little to continue making progress.

I only did 4 weeks weeks before stalling (with max weights, above 90% of my 1RM). So I've switched back to conventional progressive overload... increasing my 8RM by 5 pounds as often as possible. If not I just increase the reps. We'll see if that works any better.

    Cheers,

I am the same- I find my plateaus evey 8 weeks or so, but my max presses usually dwindle in w/in 3 weeks of my new routine, however the number of reps w/ a desgnated weight "not Max" continually grows....
