    Largest muscles in human body

What are the top 20 or 30 Skeletal muscles or so in order of weight or volume in the average human body? I can't find a list anywhere that states such precisely.

    I am guessing to start.

    1 Glutes
    2 Quads
    3 Lats
    4 Traps

Not sure where hamstrings falls in things or pecs. Then spinal erectors, and so forth.

Just curious as i feel this would be nice to know.

First you have to define- muscle or muscle GROUP. Quads are not one muscle, neither are the hams.
No sir, I don't like it.

well, it depends on the person.

With your typical lightbulb teen, the largest muscle is usually the pecs. The legs are usually slightly larger than the arms.

Now for someone who has a decently balanced physique, it is whole different story.

"Muscle group" I suppose otherwise you break spinal erectors into several muscles, quads into several muscles, and it complicates things.
If someone has data on overall largest muscles broken down more precisely that would be interesting too such as rectus femoris versus other part of quad and so on.

google says gluteus maximus across the board.

In anatomy when we dissected the cats the teacher said lats were the biggest muscle (in the cat anyway). bonus answer right there.

trivium9 largest by size or volume. Weight if you will.
The first four or five or so are not really in dispute. What are the top 20 or so in order largest to smallest. No one knows?

Wtf man, you're chalked full of it on these forums aren't you?

FOR EVERYONE WHO IS UNDER THIS MISCONCEPTION:
It has been repeatedly stated on this site and at all major universities recently, that the LATISSIMUS DORSI is the largest muscle in the human body.

No that is a myth as well.

The strongest muscles are those with the largest cross-sectional area, so glutes and quads.

However the masseter can apply the most force per cross sectional area because of its mechanical advantage; there is almost no lever arm.
No sir, I don't like it.
