Drinking egg whites vs eating them...

Between getting to the gym before school, showering, or some times waking up late, I have little to no time to cook my egg whites. Can I drink them? Is it safe and just as effective as cooking the egg white? My moms a nurse and I never stop hearing the bacteria or not good for you ****...Anyone? Repsss

Raw eggs are always a potential source of medical disasters (salmonella, etc). Ever try microwaving the egg whites? That'll denature the proteins, kill bacteria, and make a Mickey D's style egg patty minus the crap they put in it! Plus, it saves a ton of time!

If they are pasturized, you would be OK. Use Egg Beaters or other liquid egg whites...

Its called stomach acid. Your stomach will kill all bacterias. I drink raw milk, i take raw eggs all the time. I have never heard anyone being sick from this ( except in the media). Simply TEST IT and see what happens.

    1 in 30k...

just get the liquid pasteurized egg whites, it doesn't block biotin like raw.
I drink about 12 eggs worth a day. I feel like I am just absorbing energy when I drink them.

Guys, there has not been a case of salmonella in over 10 years to the best of my knowledge. In addition, there has NEVER been a case from organic/cage-free eggs. If you are going to ingest raw eggs, and you are concerned about possible health risks, buy organic/cage-free eggs instead.

May I also suggest mixing them with some ice cream to make a great shake -- chocolate works great, but if you use vanilla, just add some honey (maybe even peanut butter, though I have not tried that).

Although it is unikely to get salmonella from raw eggs if you are healthy, it's not good to eat raw egg whites because you will get a biotin deficiency. Not sure about pasteurization prevening it as the above poster mentioned; never heard of that, I'll have to look it up.
No sir, I don't like it.

I wanted to add that there is no risk to a biotin deficiency if a person cooks the

    egg whites first.

Egg-whites contain high levels of avidin, a protein that binds biotin strongly.

Once a biotin-avidin complex forms, the bond is essentially irreversible. The

biotin-avidin complex is not broken down nor liberated during digestion, and the

biotin-avidin complex is lost in the feces. Once cooked, the egg-white avidin

    becomes denatured and entirely non-toxic.
