    tanning for comp...answer ASAP

ok, does tanning cause subcutaneous water retention and if so, when should i cut it out. i have heard both ways and i was wondering if anyone else had the same experience

Never competed so maybe the effect is different when such extreme detail is necessary but I find tanning dries me out (The exception is if I burn in which case the irritation does cause me to retain water or at least appear that way though I tend to beleive it is just swelling from the burn).

Nope! you're gonna be bronzed for life. Really, I don't know--never used it; however DREAM TAN washes right off and even comes out of clothing/trunks. Very good product. BTW: 1 jar should yield about 3-4 applications.

Do you just use dream tan right before the show or do you need to pile it on like pro tan?

I already have dark skin so I don't think I need to layer on the pro tan.

Dream Tan goes on just before the show--20 30 minutes. It stays "wet" like a lotion. However, after prejudge I blot dry with a towel. Before the evening show, reapply, as it will be very uneven by then.
Since my last post, I have used Pro Tan, and I think I like it better than DT in most respects. DT is kind of a hassle to put on backstage b/c you HAVE TO have someone to help you and it tends to smear if you bump something. It does look better though. No need for oil.

Propper diet and H2O maintanence should be enough!!! and
I didn't tell you this but... If the show is Saturday, tan until Wednesday. Start using your Dye on Tuesday. Better to start early and slow than to have a peeling tan. Be sure to loofa! Now, if you notice you are experiencing water retention in the mid section, go to the grocery store. You are going to buy Seran wrap and a large tube of preperation "H." Before bed Thursday night rub a generous amount of Prep H around your mid section and wrap yourself with the plastic wrap. Be careful and watch your water carefully as you can really hurt yourself if you are not careful.

To put it simply. During a pre-contest phase you need high protein levels and low carb levels. High protein levels without propper hydration will produce calcium deposits in your kidneys. This along with a topical diuretic (PREP H) could lead to kidney stones... Also extended use (daily for more than a week) of prep h can cause damage to the skin. Hydrocortisone creme will not harm you but does not have the same effect... I would recomend trying a test spot like the inside of your bicep or inner thigh.

Thanks....Now that explains it.....the week after my contest (after I used prep H for an extended period of time and after I cut water for my show)......I had severe kidney/abdominal cramps... The doctors didn't know what it was, even after an ultrasound, catscan.....it was not kideny stones, appendix, etc.......and my blood test was fine......thanks for the info.....I think I may have dried out my internal organs as well as my skin!!!

    Thanks,

Probably not so much a cause from the preperation H as was from the lack of water. Think of your kidneys and liver as filters. If you are not constantly passing liquad thru them you inhibite their ability and risk the chance of clogging them up. Mostly concerning the kidneys. Pre-contest we take an excessive amount of pills (vitamins, aspirin, you name it.) Any pill you swallow has to be broken down in the kidneys. Protein is also broken down in the kidneys and transported into the bloodstream.

It is also pretty common to have cramps prior to, during, and after a show; even if you are taking potassium. Let me ask you. Did you seriously carb load or junk load (junk loading refers to intake of high fat/sodium foods without water after weigh ins and just before going on stage?) This little trick can make you look full but your digestive system hates you for it.

Tell you what do not use Jan Tana brand Competition Tan in the pump. I just got some to test colors and it really sucks. I may post some pics just to show how bad it looks....
