Hemp Protein Powder
Does anyone use this? If so, how does it taste? What brand/flavor do you use? What benefit do you derive from it? I'm a vegetarian. I get plenty of protein, but I am looking for a new variety of protein powder to use.

I use Living Harvest. 90% of the carbs come from fiber and flavors are original, chocolate and vanilla. I've only tried original. Mostly I've just mixed it with water, a splash of soy milk and a couple drops of Stevia. It tastes fine...I can't really describe it. It just tastes kind of light and green and clean to me. You have to constantly keep mixing it before you drink it because the hemp always floats to the bottom of the glass. Also, make sure you rinse your mouth or brush your teeth after, as I tend to find traces of the hemp in my teeth after drinking a shake. It would probably be better in a smoothie type shake with a banana and more soy or even some soy ice cream? I just haven't tried it that way yet...

I purchased it once before. AFAIK there is only one manufacturer but a number of different distributors.
On the plus side, it is one of the least processed, raw proteins you can purchase, which is important if you wish to minimize your exposure to glycotoxins. Some studies have shown that reducing glycotoxins in the diet extends lifespan. The more cooked protein in your diet, the more glycotoxins.
Also it has an ideal omega6 mega3 ratio and probably a lot of beneficial protective phytochemicals due to the green color.
On the minus side, it is very expensive and only 37% protein. I have not found any seller selling for less than $8.23/lb and if you consume 3 oz per day that's another $1.50/day for your food costs.
I am currently using Nutribiotic rice protein powder. It's cheaper and it's low temperature processed, but it's probably better to mix up the proteins and use a wide variety of sources.

Oh wow. I think you just saved me from my whey shakes. I was still taking them to supplement my protein because I couldn't find the right vegan macro content in other powders. Too carb heavy and also expensive. I'm going to try the Nutribiotic. Thanks!

Thanks! I use whey and was looking to branch out. I may try hemp. I would try egg, as that has a high BV, but looks very expensive.

I've actually been mixing the hemp with 1/2 cup soy, 1/2 a banana, 1/4 cup pineapple juice with a couple of chucks thrown in, and a little water. It's great. No more hemp floating to the bottom of the glass, so I was correct in assuming it mixed better with some more substantial added ingredients.

For other natural protein sources, have you guys thought about Spirulina, Chlorella or Klamath? I heard those are good. Also, I've heard Alpha Lipoic Acid helps increase absorption.

To avoid getting it on your teeth, have you tried drinking it with a straw?
