Taking the Doors off Your Car...Illegal?

My little brother has this really ****ty Geo Metro and he took the doors off of it the other day and has been driving around with it like that. I told him it was probably illegal but I wasn't sure if there was an actual law against it. I know that it is legal for Jeep Wranglers to drive around without doors but what about a car?

Does anybody have a link or some documentation of a law that states anything about the removal of doors from a car? Would it depend on an individual city's law against it?

I don't know, I told him to put them back on but I'm not going to argue with him about it, my parents are out of town so he thinks he can do whatever...I guess if he gets a ticket that's his problem.

    Thanks.

heh- I dont know what kind of car he drives, but good luck putting the doors back on. Thats a HUGE bitch. Taking em off is easy sure enough. But getting them lined up and pinned back in is no fun or easy task.

Alaska is the last place that I would want to drive a car without doors.
BTW, how do jeeps get away with it then?

If the laws in your area is anything like it is in mine, the standard is that you can't alter your vehicle in a way that removes a safety feature. Say you have two cars. One came with no airbags. The other came with airbags but you removed them. Both cars would be the same, safety-wise, but only the first car would be legal.

Doors and windshields and such are considered safety features for the purposes of the laws where I am.
