You can also get basmati brown rice - yummy !!

Here's a picture of basmati brown rice with salmon that I made not so long ago:

That's 1/2 cup of basmati brown rice with 1 can of wild salmon - very simple to make and delicious.

i think the only difference between white and brown rice is their nutritional value. Brown rice obviously still got the grain, or most of it, whereas white rice is a processed form of brown rice.
The GI is the same in both of them.

Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.

    Impossible is nothing.

According to this Jasmin rice is very high GI -90-100, (for those who care) where as Basmati is medium (~60). I guess nutritionally they are similar - although I haven't checked that.

    Smile Eat what u like . . .

B4 u decide u can't stand brown rice, make sure u try some that is fresh. The bran oils go rancid after 6 months, "old" brown rice tastes just awful.

Basmati & jasmine r types of long-grain rice w/ exotic flavors, from India & Thailand respectively. They r mostly available as "polished" (white) types, but "unpolished" (brown) versions r also available.

There are some differences in GI, but considering they will b eaten with other things, these r insignificant in the big picture, the overall glycemic load of a typical meal.

Bottom Line: Eat what u like. Don't listen 2 food extremists.
    Best Regards,

    Ed

why is gi irrelevant? if the rice doesn't cause insulin to spike than it will be less prone to be stored as fat since your body will be using the food at a slower pace.

i'm not saying it's the only factor to consider, but i think gi is relevant and important

i don't know if this is what he was getting at, but the GI difference between white and brown rice is very very minimal.

i'm pretty sure that basmati and jasmine rice you get at most restaurants are of the polished variety; i.e. not brown, similar to white rice you see at most places. i know jasmine rice is a flavored long grain rice (the thai's add jasmine flowers to the rice which absorb flavors, similar to jasmine tea which is green tea w/ jasmine flowers). basmati i'm not 100% sure on, but the indians use a lot of thai long grain and jasmine rice in their cooking, and add their own flavoring to it; i.e. saffron.

why can't you eat brown? digestive issues or flavor issues? i eat white rice every day, and i hate brown rice.

I'm sure it's fine, and though I've trained myself to enjoy brown rice, nothing will ever taste better to me than jasmine rice.
