I spoke with my orthopedist about this, he said it hasnt been proven in any double blind medical testing procedure, and the product has been around for awhile.. his thought was that if they wanted acceptance in the medical industry, they would submit to the medical industries test.. then they would get backing from doctors and the like... he said, until they do that, consider it snake oil... buy a bottle, if it works for you.. great, do it.. if not... dont, because there is no professionally done scientific tests that say it works.

There have been numerous legit studies that have found it effective, though many of them are somewhat flawed.

Also, studies do not "prove" anything, so I suppose he is technically correct.

Hell yeah, its been shown to be absorbed and utilized in the body. Glucosamine is an essential compound for the cartilage and its health, so is chondroitin. While the direct impact may be minimal, if any at all, long term it can only help to preserve the health of the joints. There is nothing structurally different in glucosamine molecules from one person to the next, so Instead of having the body manufacture it, a higher intake may provide the relief, same as with creatine. Since glucosamine can indeed find its way to synovial fluid via systemic delivery, this is an acceptable theory.

Good stuff

I take it everyday and have found that is very helpful for an injury I suffered this year.

I also highly recommend Jointritis topical rub with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Very effective, but expsensive.

Keep in mind that it takes at least 30 days of use to see any results.

Glucosamine

I'm more of a runner than a lifter, but I am a big fan of this stuff. My ankle had been hurting me a lot, but when I started taking this the pain went away. Then I stopped running and stopped taking this, and the pain came back. I started taking glucosamine again and now the pain is gone. So I'm convinced that it works...the only problem is I'm afraid my body may NEED this supplement now!

i started taking it after i saw how it helped my mom with arthritis. i dont notice a difference since i dont have pre existing problems, but i dont ever have elbow or shoulder pain after heavy presses, dips, etc. like some of my friends do. it has been proven safe so i see no harm in trying it out. my moms orthopedist did say that chondroitin can be bad for the liver or kidneys, i forget which one so i avoid that. i take straight glucosamine hcl and sulfate.
