Here's the one I just wrote..

I just finished reading that little supplement article, and, I must say, it was great. I havent laughed like that in ages. I don't think I've seen someone do a parody of today's misinformed and ignorant society that well in ages. I just think your sense of humor is superb. Heh, where did you come up with that stuff? Giving natural substances the false labels of having dangerous sideffects akin to anabolic steroids was a nice touch. Hah, and that disadvantage thing. Soon enough people will be whining about genetics and chromosomes being unfair and such, eh? Maybe we should just ban sports entirely, because it's not fair for one person to be better than the other. That might lead to...gasp.. competition? No! Say it aint so! That little tidbit about supplements being precursors to steroids was good, too. I mean, I ate food before I started supplements.. which lead to steroids.. So food is a precursor to steroids, right? Of course! Everyone that used supplements ate food, so that means food is obviously the course of supplement use. And we all know that supplements can kill you and ravage your body, unlike cheeseburgers and cigarettes and beer. God forbid we try to better our bodies with perfectly safe substances, lest we somehow piss the ignorant masses off because our dedication to actually perfecting ourselves.. Alright, I think I've thoroughly killed my air of sarcasm, so let's get straight. You say whey protien is cheating, dangerous, etc? And you said it was a byproduct of milk, yes? Mmm, close, but not quite. Milk is actually 20% pure whey protien, with that other 80 % being a slower-digesting casien protien. So, basically, drinking milk will kill your liver and give you an unfair advantage in sports, yes? Apparently so. And with creatine? I fail to see anything in your article that would convince me that it is in any way, shape, or form a device of cheating or dependency. You say that an overdose of these supplements cause various health risks? Are we forgetting that little side effect called "death" that occurs when you take a few more aspirin than reccomended? Surely that's a bit more severe than a bit of cramping. What about dependency and withdrawl symptoms of nicotine? Supplements have numerous positive benifits that far outweigh the so-called side-effects you have listed. The reason that there are no conclusive studies about the long-term side-effects of creatine and protien is that there are none, or, if there are, they are fairly insignificant. Sure, VERY high amounts of protien can cause liver damage, but this is an ungodly amount we're talking about. Too much water can cause water poisoning, but that isn't going to stop me from drinking a ****load of it to keep healthy, now is it? I seriously hope you'll take this and the numerous other messages of complain I'm positive you've gotten to heart and actually do a bit of research on something before you decide to spout off a rant against it.

    excellent letter.

for YOUR information: there have been numerous studies done on protien and creatine, creatine has ZERO long term side effects, and high amounts of protien will complicate an already existing kidney problem, but there has never been any evidence that even 600+ grams of protien a day will do anything to healthy kidneys. this was studied, and those were the results.

If this guy replies to any of us.... post it here and we will lamaste it. he proably wont though.

EDIT: just remembered a part of my letter. I called that all-state female swimmer an "unmitigated loser" for complaining about the size of OLDER girls, and despite the fact that they were older, if you arent big then its your own damn fault. AND SIZE ISNT REALLY AN BIG ADVANTAGE IN SWIMMING, LOOK AT THE OLYMPICS RETARD. (I forgot to say that part, but still)

That guy is a homo, he has no business writing articles. Its people like him that give the average joe bad views on all supplements in general, **** him and the horse he rode in on. Because of people like him, supps like the new fat burners WITHOUT ephedra are getting banned by the NCAA, and now creatine is getting banned. Where do they grow these idiots at? Im telling ya some people need to be bitch slapped so hard their head spin.

The way they talk about supps, it sounds like I'm reading an article on frickin PSP. WTF is wrong with this dude? "Instead of having creatine and protein, have a turkey sandwich or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!"

    WTF?!

I just saved that e mail! For the next "Nutritionalist" idiot I run across who slams supplements without the proper, intelligent knowledge. :-))

Turkey sandwich and peanut butter and jelly? Hmmm, ok and let's see, how much protein is in that and carbs to fat ratio as well? Also, yes Creatine is naturally occuring TRACE element in meat. True, but how much meat would you need to eat to get the same amount of "naturally occuring" creatine as 1 scoop in water?
You'd probably drop dead from the chosterol! But oh it'd be the creatine that killed you according to them.

I had a "nutrition specialist" appointed by the government here speak at my course. (i.e. the person who was making coffee at the office the week before and probably blew the boss for that title. Was pretty "ample" anyway, probably from such good nutrition!) and every 2nd thing she said was blasting the supplement industry and when I asked why they felt that way about..... the only answer was "no signifigant research" or "nothing has been proven to...."
Yeah right well what about someone like me who now with protein drinks can drink milk several times a day because the ingrediants in the powders seem to counter the lactose in the milk (I'm lactose intolerant)?

"Oh well, um I don't have any information and that but whatever works!" So I had to sit there and listen to 3 hours just to hear "whatever works"?
I totally owned this so called "expert" Take your little binder booklet which you read from as if it was the Bible and dictated word for word and go home! Same as these fools in the above article link. I guess they fear/hate what they don't understand.
    Mark MacQuire all over again!

Sorry went on a bit of a rant there. (feel free to e mail it to them too.)

Here is a much more even-handed brief from a far more credible source (the AAOS):

    http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_r...%2F%20Exercise

By even-handed, I mean that they touch on what it's reputed to do, what it does, what the potential side effects are, who shouldn't consider using it, as well as mentioning some interesting research into possible beneficial medical uses near the end of the article.

But I also find the article so sad from all the misconceptions being touted out there and on the most common problem of being in high school. Peer pressure and conforming.

As a woman who loves to lift heavy (comparitively speaking).....that statement of Shaina Israel's about female swimmers her age not bothering with suppliments "because we don't want to get big" is just another "buy in" of the Female and bodybuilding/strength building myths.
