I do like the South, but I was raised in Miami and also spent my early 20's in New York. I do miss the beach and city sometimes, but at least I have friends I can visit!
Do you live in South or North LA?

I was in New Orleans when Saints played their first game last year. It was definitely very cool to see. I haven't been to any LSU games, but I would like to go sometime.
There's an Arena Football team here in town (Battlewings); I've been to their games a few times. AFL is entertaining to watch. Plus, it's like 7 dollars a ticket - dirt cheap.

They have an annual Turkish festival in DC. I went to it once, when I lived in Virginia, it wasn't that great. I ate some food, listened to some of the music and left. Half the day, they had Arabic music playing and random people belly-dancing....This was in the middle of DC, everyone was watching. Then go try explaining Americans that we're not Arabs...
I live in NW Louisiana now and I've only met two Turks in my town so far. I'm close to Dallas though (3 hr drive); I think they have some stuff that goes on every year too.

So for something different, and to spur up some conversation:
What's your favorite part/parts of Turkish culture?
For me, one of the first things is our very deep rooted musical prowess that over time has spanned into an incredible mix of different modern genres that are topped of with Turkish influences. Turkish rock, folk, metal, rap, blues, pop, alternative, opera....it just goes on and on.
Absolutely incredible.

oh gosh, we can't let the Turk thread sink to the bottom of page#2...
As far as the Turkish culture goes, I would say my favorite part is the Turkish language. As Gazi Mustafa Kemal put it "Turk demek dil demektir." I love the language, love the literature, poetry and everything else that is part of the Turk language.
oh yeah, also love the music...(everything Kavak said)
