I for one am happy that milk prices are rising. My family milks about 10,500 cows, and with the feed cost going up so fast, we really needed the price per hundred weight of milk to go up. But even with the increased price we are getting paid, it still doesn't completely offset the higher feed prices....damn that ethanol.

WH is right.
This is all due to the mandate by the government to increase the amount of ethanol blended to motor gasoline.
Corn is being directed away from livestock to make EtOH.
Hence - the rise in prices of whey, milk, etc.
So - this really is both George Bush and Congress' fault. But - all of that was driven by you people b*tching and moaning about "foreign oil".
Now we have gasoline that gets less miles per gallon and higher milk and whey protein prices.
Great.
I'd imagine pretty soon Mexico will be in a world of hurt due to the cost of tortillas rising. Rioting in the streets of Tijuana!RIP Dad

It has nothing to do with the middle east or president Bush. It has everything to do with an increased demand, and a shortage. For those of you who have taken an economics course, it's actually the consumer's fault. Most of the whey protein comes from dairy plants in New Zealand. The cost of production has gone up, as did the seperation of whey/casein process. These factors combined equals the reason for why the cost of whey protein has gone up.
EDIT: Also, if you want to talk about why gas is expensive, ask the environmentalist groups why we can't drill for our own oil. And if we went to war for the oil, where did it go? Yeah, President Bush is keeping it all for himself in Texas. Get real. It's the democrats that are keeping gas prices high, and that is a fact. Who harbors environmentalists? Who protects PETA and the Sierra Club? Not George W. Bush. Clinton? Yes. Furthermore, no one has control over who prices gas except for oil companies, which is basically a monopoly.Last edited by ManInTheBox; 06-23-2007 at 12:14 PM.

If it's easy, it's pointless. That goes for eating too, keep eating, even when you think you can't eat anymore.

I thought about buying a cow too...but you can't milk them all year long, and you'd have to have her bred to have a calf (could help with beef) in order for her to make the milk....so ideally I'd need two or three and just cycle them....seriously thought about gettin some chickens tho. And maybe a few rabbits...

ok the reason why milk/food prices are raising is because we are now using much more ethanol in gas then we used too, which is made from corn. Because of this farmers have been switching crops from say wheat, or other products to corn. Which means feed for cows and other animals have more then doubled....which means milk/meat is more expensive

ummm... why?
My only question is this: I understand how gas is imported, and so therefore price is subject to supply and demand on a worldwide scale. But our milk comes from our own dairy darmers. So why in the hell should it mirror the price of gas? I am assuming that it is because of higher cost to feed the animals which is due to higher costs of producing the food for them which is done by using gas powered machinery? Well, milk in itself can go up as high as it wants, I dont drink it. But Whey protein? Whey is too expensive as it is. This was a BYPRODUCT that was thrown away for so many years. I seriously hope that its price doesnt get too astronomical. I love my protein and its hard enough when you are spending $200 on food a month and another $200 on supplements.
Also, I realized I just wrote the word "our" when referring to milk. I forgot that this was a worldwide web site and so therefore some readers might live in Australia or instance. I apologize for the confusion, I was referring strictly to America and american milk prices. If you always do what you've always done, You'll always get what you always got
