can someone clear somthing about eggs up for me
I'm thinking maybe I'm eating too many boiled eggs now that I'm studying the 1st couple days of my diet journal.
My breakdown is 240g P/ 240g C/ 53g F. I'm 6'0 and 158 lbs now. I want to loose body fat but I'm not interested in dropping anymore weight so I'm trying to build some muscle and maintain my current weight just replace the body fat with some muscle.
So what I understand is a whole boiled egg contains 10.6 grams of Fat. So as I have sat down and injested 2-3 eggs per meal, I'm really blowing my fat max per day out of the water. I thought I would be eating a lot of eggs but now I'm thinking 3 a day is probably a max out of respect for my 53g max.
any thoughts would be appreciated!

1 egg does not have 10.6g of fat. More like 5 or 6 on average.

you should be eating a lot more eggs than 2 or 3. But, and that is a BIG BUT, you should be removing the yolk as this is the part of the egg that contains the fat. One egg white has about 3-4 grams of protein, so if you are supposed to be having 30 grams of protein per meal, you should be eating about 9-10 egg whites - leave out the yolk (the yellow part of the egg just in case you didn't know).
Your fat sources should only be coming from "healthy fats" i.e. Olive Oil, Natural Peanut Butter, Almonds, Walnuts, Flaxseed oil, Fish Oil, etc. Egg yolk IS NOT "healthy fats."

disregard MOST of that reply....while those fats mentioned are very healthy, anyone trying to build muscle will benefit from the egg yolk
do not take the yolk out....unless u plan on eating 9 or 10 eggs.
i whole egg with yolk is 70 calories, 5g fat, 6-7g protein...the yolk is the most important part. it contains all of the vitamins and nutrients and is a great source of extra protein. one of the biggest mistakes made in dieting is not eating egg yolks. its a great source of fats and protein, and many other critical vitamins and nutrients.
ask any expert on nutrition for building muscle and health (most ppl but not all with "high reps" on this site)...

Wow, you need to do some research my friend. There are dozens of threads on here about the benefits of egg yolks and just as many on myths concenring them - such as raising cholestrol. Read up

To each his own about the whole egg yolk thing. I was not bashing egg yolks just simply stating that they are unnecessary for building lean mass.
Do you actually read your own posts before posting, because you probably should. If you really want to get technical here, I've got a degree in Nutrition, I'm a certified Personal Trainer, Certified Sports Nutritionist, and an NPC Figure Competitor - I spend more time researching/educating on Sports Nutrition than you will in your lifetime. Never have I ever seen a bodybuilder or figure competitor with egg yolks on their diet; is it possible they are leaving them out for a reason?
Plus, peanut butter, almonds, olive oil and any other form of "healthy fat" tastes way better than yolk - which would you rather eat?

I believe there is no "max" about eggs. Remember those "old-school"(Larry Scoot) guys? They could "almost" replicate steroid effect with 3-4 dozen eggs day. I personally eat 9 to 12 eggs a day, simply because I lift 4x times and marathon train. And eggs = aids in natural testosterone production = intense energy. And if you eat them raw, its a very quick and healty meal.

what if i dont like the egg yolk. I eat 4 egg whites in the morning with 2 cups of oatmeal and 3tbps of peanut butter, along with a protein shake. I damn near puke at the scent of egg yoke from boiled eggs.

If you are trying to put on mass, try having 6 whites and 2 yolks. If you are trying to lose fat, leave out the yolks. Simple and everyone is happy.

Just because you have a degree in nutrition doesn't mean ****. Anyone can "slide" by in college for that bachelors. You do NOT know what you are talking about when it comes to eggs. So please do the research that you should have done in college.
i actually prefer yolk. but i eat pb, almonds, and olive oil as well.

lol good stuff
sorry for my newbness. I got the 10.6g of fat from the food index off this site for a boiled egg. If that is wrong it needs to be taken down. I'm definatley trying to build some lean mass so I'll leave the yolk in.. I'll see how that 6 white 2 yolk combo works into my diet.
I definatley need to study more into the healthy fat thing. I know yolk is not healthy fat but I figured I definately better not being going over my 53g of healthy fat with "unhealthy" fat.
So I should def get 53g of the healthy fats but what about just the regular fat I get through the day? I think the wheat bread on my turkey is hurting me as well in the category

I can't stand the taste or lack there of, in eggs. I lean toward the people that say eating the whole egg outweighs the benefits of not eating the yolk.......boiled of course :P
The egg white is pure protein, that's the most conservative way and I have a friend that will only eat the whites, nothing and no one could tell him otherwise.

2 large eggs have 10.6g fat . . .
I think the OP must have gotten nutrition data for 2 eggs, since a large (50g) chicken's egg has exactly 5.3 g fat. Healthy fats r something we all need & egg yolks r an excellent source & also have the lion's share of the egg's micronutrients.
Here's an article I wrote about hard-boiled eggs u might find intertesting:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=2600901
Discarding egg yolks is silly b/c u r going 2 have 2 get healthy fats from somewhere else in that case & the idea that they r unhealthy is pure nutrition myth.

Thanks a lot man! It's very cool of you to give me some positive re-inforcement. Again, sorry for the newbness. I just am trying to understand that what I'm doing is correct. Now for the patience for the results. I've just heard that regular wheat bread isn't that good for you. I eat 100% whole wheat and love it. I've heard I should be getting Ezekiel wheat bread which I haven't been able to find. Maybe some anal-ness is playing in here. I'm just glad I don't have to give up bread. I'm huge on it. My favorite thing.
skinnyboigh- thanks for the article. I'll def check it out!
I definately feel better about shoving eggs down my throat now

High rep is bulls***, most people with high rep are just representatives from companies that think they know what they're talking about and have been on the forum for years so they think they're Gods of info. I had an argument with a guy that said saturated fats are the best thing for you. Since when have saturated fats been good? It must be true since he has high rep though, right? Wrong. The main thing wrong with egg yolk is the cholesterol. Yes it does have essential vitamins and that's why you leave 2-3 in each serving, and then get the rest of the protein from the whites which don't have the cholesterol. But if you want to keep taking the yolks, go at it, let me know how your cholesterol is doing in a few years. 9-10 eggs, with 6-7 whites isn't too much to eat, if it is for you I'm sorry, but man up. Personally I don't eat eggs unless I can get atleast 7(including whites). It's not even like they're expensive.

I don't understand why you contradict yourself. I believe she said have a few egg yolks combined with whites so you get the benefits from the yolk without addig TOO much cholesterol to the diet.

I'd like to know too, I would love to just take raw eggs but am afraid to get sick from them. Not sure if it's worth the risk, it doesn't take too long to cook, but drinking them is a lot faster than cooking.
