People who type "your" instead of "you're"

They are slow to pick the concept of the english language, but it really isn't my problem. Let them go through life looking uneducated, it's amusing to those smarter than that.

In that context, the word "your" is proper.

Annoys me. When I see "your" I think possessive and when that doesn't make sense in the context of the sentence it breaks up the flow. Then I don't want to read the post anymore. As much as I hate being a grammar nazi, this is one of many mistakes that makes it tedious to read someone's post.

Can I ask you for permission to do a research project? I plan on shadowing YOUR screen-name for the next 4 weeks. In this time, I will make a note of every grammatical and punctuation error. Whenever you enter a thread, PM me and I will be a little spelling detective. I will post the results of my research in late October. Just like in Field of Dreams, people will flock to my conclusive thread..because..well..that is the only reason we are at BB.COM message boards. People will open the "Thread" without even thinking about it. And it will be as if they've dipped themselves in magic waters.

Everyone makes that mistake now and then. I agree though, people who don't know the difference are annoying.

Doesn't really bother me.
When people don't put commas in words like don't, doesn't, you're, etc, or make small mistakes, it doesn't bother me.
What bugs me is when people misspell words that should be common knowledge to spell correctly, or people who use the word 'then' in place of 'than.' That really bugs the **** out of me.
Like, for example, someone says "I'm bigger then you."
I hate that. It also really annoys me when people spell 'offense' like 'offence,' TONS of people do it and I just think it looks dumb spelled out that way.

I have a friend that when I talk to him on messenger he types like this, "today i going to the store. i not feeling to good right now." Theres always other errors too... But the main one is that he says "I" instead of "I'm!". Drives me phucking insane. Oh ya, and he doesn't talk like that in person or anything... just on the net.

Moreover, imprecise typing reflects imprecise though, and makes it difficult to trust that the writer knows what he's talking about. Think about it - if your doctor gave you a prescription that said "U need 2 get [whatever] @ [wherever]," you'd go and get a new damn doctor. It's not the most intelligent sounding way to type.Last edited by SchwarzeN!GGER; 09-26-2004 at 02:07 AM.

I hate that. It's annoying.
Stupid people don't understand why it's annoying either. Only smart people do. When you're reading something, you see "your" and proccess it as "YOUR"..then the rest of the sentence stops making sense and you got to think back oh..he meant you're as in you are! Damn. This **** is supposed to be taught in Elementary.
LOOSE and LOSE piss me me off too, because they're pronounced different. So when you read them, it sounds different in your head and it's annoying when you figure out the person meant the other word.
But being called a LOOSER is just funny.
Internet abbreviations suck too.
BRB! GTG! PPL, UR, The newest one.."IKR!"
I think WTF and lol are the only ones that aren't bad. "lol" is dumb though cause you can just put 'haha"
The worst internet abreviations have to be the stupid 13yrold baby talk **** because they think it's cute: "cuz" "Wut" "2nite"
I think it's faster to type the whole word out too. Because to sit there and think in your head "be right back" and then to think of the abreviation, and then B---R---B.. Probably takes longer. Unless maybe you taught yourself the letters as a word "brb" Plus, for the reader.. takes longer for them to read it and figure out what you're saying.. Unless they're stupid too. I skim posts fast before I start reading. If it looks stupid, I don't read it.Last edited by No0b; 09-26-2004 at 02:56 AM.

i understand completely, and would prefer people employ a little more precision in their messages and such, but the reality is, these people aren't going to become intelligent overnight nor learn to formerly construct a sentence, so it is pointless to try.....
