Full Body or Split workout for the the fat guy

I am 6 foot 5 & I weigh in 415 lbs. I was wanting to know which type of workout a full body or a split would help me the most towards losing more weight? I have bought a curl bar and a dumbbell set form 10 lbs to 50 lbs and I bought just about every workout book out there and Im still clueless. Could anyone give me some advise? On how should I go at it?

you can do either one. The most important factor in losing your weight, is having the right diet

eat a low calorie diet

drink plenty of water

do cardio work.

sure weights will help you tone muscle, but aerobic type stuff will burn more fat i think.

do the weights later on in your journey for weight loss.

i would go for a full body.

maybe research 'barbelle complexes' and 'dumbelle complexes' they might be good for you, do weights and get a decent cardio work out.

dont eat so much to.

As for full-vs-half body, go full body and include do mostly compound multi-joint movements. To paraphrase others - increase the metabolic cost of each exercise/workout. While diet is the most important factor in losing weight without question, resistance training is the 2nd most effective way. So start resistance training right away!!

Yup, drink plenty of water as your metabolism decreases when you're dehydrated.

No, aerobic exercise is not the best way to burn fat - interval training is (2 kinds - anaerobic or sprints and aerobic) the much more effective method. 20 minutes of interval training is far more effective than an hour on the treadmill. For sprinting, try 30 second sprints & 90 seconds rest, and start with 8 cycles. The next week increase to 9, and then 10. After that, increase your sprint to 40s and rest to 80s.

So, to recap;

1/ Fix your diet - get a meal plan and stick to it. Berardi has some good information on his site
2/ Start resistance training - full body multi-joint movements as much as you can.
3/ Start doing interval training
4/ Do normal cardio if you have time...

Keep a journal too. Track your measurements and note how your clothes feel! You may not "see" a difference right away, and since your adding muscle you may not lose the weight you expect, but taking measurements is the best way to monitor progress.

Good luck buddy
