Is it ok to lift weights every day?

If you show no signs of overtraining, is it ok? Its just i know two people who lift weights every day and they are huge.

have AT LEAST one day of rest per week where you don't do cardio or lift weights. your body needs time to recover.

i very much doubt that yuoll make significant gains training with weights everyday. Unless you did a body-part split, but still it could lead to overtraining

it really depends on a number of factors, if you have a well organised spilt and keep total volume down to an average number of sets it would be fine

Also adjusting the volume as you get further into a prolonged training system.

At the beginning of the week my volume is considerably higher than it is near end of week 2.

You almost definitely will not be able to go all out consistently training every day, the best thing to do if you choose to train this frequently, adjust the volume of the workout and be prepared to switch things up if you feel you are overtraining.

There are times in the winter when I hit the weights every day, but I do a six day split and get plenty of rest and nutrition while I'm doing this. In the winter basically all I have to do is lift, eat, and sleep. I would advise taking at least one day off a week though to ensure you get enough rest and give your muscles time to grow.

I think what your looking at is this:

    1. Training everyday with proper rest/nutition etc probably won't lead to overtraining or sickness.
    2. Training everyday may produce hypertrophy (i'm guessing this is what your after by the use of the word "huge"

    HOWEVER

    1. Training everyday contributes to a higher likelyhood of repetitive stress disorders.
    2. A split/rest schedule allows more complete resting of the muscles, even if they are not sore, allowing larger, more complete lifts on the next day that muscle is trained. This allows for GREATER hypertrophy.

Don't beleive me? Try it. Do biceps curls to failure on day 1. Record weight and reps. Do them again on day 2 to see with the same weight, you'll have less reps. Now, On day 1 do the same thing. This time, wait till you are not sore in that area anymore (maybe 2-3 days) lift again. You may have the same or more reps. Final test: Repeat day 1, but wait 1 complete week before doing them again. All other factors constant, you will have a much stronger lift by waiting a week.

Edit: The concept to take home on this is that muscles DO NOT grow when they are being stressed. They grow when they are being rested.

I might as well try 6 days. But the odds seem to be low that i can cope. Worth a try though. A lot of protein should help.

I doubt that the OP is talking about exercising specific muscle groups on consecutive days.
He is not asking if training his biceps 7 days per week is okay.
He is only asking if weight training every day is okay.

    To the OP,
Most people will likely tell you that is not ideal to lift weights (and they may be right, i agree with them).
But what applies to one person...does not always apply to everybody.
You'll never know until you try.
If you're deadset on lifting for 7 days per week...then give it a try.
Try it for a week or two, keep a training journal to monitor your progress.
At the end of the 7-Days-per-week-exercise plan, go over your journal and evaluate your gains/losses.
If you like what you see, then you can continue to do 7 days per week.
If you don't like what you see, then you can quit and try a new routine.

But, it is absolutely vital that you get good rest and nutrition.

The man also knows his body better than anyone I know, he knows what he needs to do, then this groundbreaking concept...HE DOES IT.

Its miraculous. I wish I was as consistent as he is when it comes to training, i end up changing my plan once i start lifting more than i like.

The 30 Day Mass Plan by Chad Waterbury
    2 years
    Starting weight/height = 119lbs / 5'8"
    Current weight/height - 185lbs / 5'8"

Bulking 'til 230lbs or when the Buffalo Bills have a winning season. Whichever comes first.

Step 1) Pick up a weight and a small farm animal.
Step 2) Lift one and eat the other.

For most lifters it will. Most beginners cannot recover from a ton of volume each week. That's why I laugh whenever I see these 5' 8" 130 lb kids ask what kind of a split to use.

As to the OP, what works for your friend might not work for you. Everyone is different.
