You're talking about lats. Do pull-ups and lat pulldowns to hit them. Pull-ups are the better of the two.

And don't anyone fall for that "Width versus Thickness" crap, it is all a myth. Your body grows how it wants to grow, so if you are pretty thick already chances are you will add width to your back and if you are already pretty wide you will likely add thickness to your back.
The key is to involve all kinds of exercises from rows to pull-ups to dead-lifts.I'm back. For good.
