I think this is real embarrassing but my squat is stuck @ 105!! I can do leg extensions for 3x10 @ 210 but when I squat my thighs feel like they are about to collapse on every rep. Right now I'm doing Rippetoe's and I do squats 3x5. Anyone can give me advice on how to increase my squats? Thanks!

How long have you been doing this program for? Have you squated before?
My guess is you simply are not use to squatting or are least not use to squatting so often... in either case your body will get over it very quickly if you suffer through it. Maybe you started w/ too much weight...Secretary of Defense/Neeging, SRCSG (Squat Rack Curlers Support Group)

Are you doing Rippetoe's Beginner's Program described in Starting Strength?
If yes, this program should make you squat 3times a week, normally it's just a matter of time before your squats starts increasing.
mo: 5x5
we: 5x5
fr: 5x5
If you're stuck at 105, restart with empty bar, work your way up adding 5lbs every workout. 1 month later you should lift more than 105lbs on the squat.
Good luck.http://stronglifts.com

i started the program this week (on monday) and that was the first time i squatted (it was a horrible 2 days after for my thighs LOL) and i started @ 105, maybe I should've started lower? and i don't think its my lower back, i can deadlift 165 with no problem. and yeah im doing 3x5 on the program, so 45 reps per week. and since the first day, i have increased in everything except my squat. i concentrated on HST too much and now its real weird for me because when i go to the gym i see much skinnier (in sense of muscle mass) kids doing much more than me and i actually have a somewhat of a muscular frame doing 1/2 of what they are doing! should have went with strength first
btw this is my log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=2911691

Oh, easy then. That's your problem right there. You just started too high.
Just back the weight off down to about 70 and go from there. Just add 5 lbs every day you squat. You won't even notice 105 as you go by it in a couple of weeks. Just eat big.
Edit: Just read your log too. Supplements are cool and all but really they are just part of the 5%. The 95% is lifting, eating and sleeping. Make sure that you are lifting with a purpose, eating lots of good clean food and sleeping a good 7-8 hours a night. That'll do more than the supplements for you at this point.Last edited by Dave T; 06-01-2007 at 03:25 PM.

Well it is a begginner program, so you start very low by the time weight gets too heavy to squat 3xtimes trainee will be off SS most probably.
I know it works for me so far - I started at 95 and doing 200 now . I hope by the time SS runs out of steam I will be able to do 225-250.
Also weight increase every workout is only when the bar speed is good (so for me it happens every other or every 3d workout) .

Don't. It's bad advice. Get your ass back under the barbell. Drop the weight back a bit. Get the weight off the rack. Squat it 5 times. Do that again 2 more times. Go eat some oats and chicken. Keep eating chicken for the next 2 days.
Repeat with 5 more pounds on the bar.
Seriously, that's all you need to do.
