How much protein is too much in one sitting?
I try to eat 4500 cal per day, and with the 3:2:1 cal plan, I need 375 g of protein per day. I heard that your body can only use so much protein at one sitting, but I average 53.5 g per meal. (375/7= 53.5) Since sometimes I only eat about 30 g at a meal, I must make up for it later. How much is too much at one time?

lol,,, the women at gnc.... hummmm
anyways..
It you get your protein from different sources it will digest at different speeds...
like your whey protein digests within an hour, and your egg whites and milk take alittle longer to digest,,,, and then your meats take even longer...
I think the best thing to do is eat alot of different kinds of protein at a sitting... so it will digest at different times and keep you with a steady flow..get yo bitch-ass back in the kitchen and make me some pie!

Be careful not consume too much per day, it may damage your kidneys. Over 50 grams is too much. Drink alot of water throughout the day to help with digesting all of that food.
There is no proof that cavemen ate thousands of grams of protein in one sitting. I read in this book of anthropology they ate hundreds, but i'm not sure about thousands. Who knows? Maybe they did, none of us were there.Jeremiah 29:13

I think that at around 215 lbs, I can take in at least 60 g or protein in a sitting easily. Doesnt seem to be a problem, just want to make sure I can get the most out of my protein. Also, I will try to mix up my protein more through the day.
So would a whey protein shake and a can of tuna be a good snack? I usually consume this around 11 30 or so, seems the whey would digest quickly and the tuna more slowly.

thats untrue, it can only damage the kidneys if you already have a kidney condition, if your a healthy person, there isnt any risk

that's also false. if a person with a kidney operating at 50% capacity of a normal person will suffer damage from 90g per day, it would be stupid to presume no limit exists for someone with a kidney operating at 100%. It may be more than double the 90g/day suggested, but it certaintly isn't "no limit, no risk"

Put it this way. There is a definite limit to what is necessary. You really only need to take in between 30-60 grams of protein in a sitting. There are times where I have eaten a ton of meat in one sitting and it seems to get absorbed just fine, but there is no real purpose to eating too much protein. I doubt there are studies showing how much a person can digest in one sitting because there are too many variables in that kind of study, but it would be safe to assume that if all you ate was protein all day you would die in a painful and horrible way (like Big Red and his beef poisoning in the Simpsons).

I was under the impression that the most important thing was to make sure your body is going to use all the protein before it goes out your body.
For example, whey seems to be one of the fastest absorbed proteins. So if your body has no muscle tissue to repair, like say, right after you get out of bed, 40 g (or whatever) of whey protein won't get used for what you want it used for.
I don't have any definite numbers, but I think the best thing to do is match your protein intake and where the protein is coming from to the time in your day. For example, the best time to use whey would be like shorty after a workout when you have a lot of muscle tissue repair being done and all that protein would be used to it's best advantage, whereas in the morning, it might be better to get your protein from milk or something where it will get digested slower throughout the day.
I mean, this is what I always thought. Correct me if I'm wrong.
