I ride a black Triumph Tiger 1050 ABS with heated grip, hand protector and travel cases, very nice bike. The 3 cylinder 1050cc is really a great engine.
I crashed with it yesterday
A car I was following too near pulled the breaks hard, I could not avoid it and hit it at rather low speed from behind, I felt then I slided on the abrasive road... Thanks to my leather jacket and boots I only have bruises and muscular pain (had to put the 200kg bike back on wheels to free the road ...), bike slided on the right side, fairing, handlebar, footpeg, headlight, front wheel, fork are damaged ...
Wear leather guys, even if it hots, I see some riding in Tshirt as it is summer and weather is hot in France right now ... well I can only imagine getting some big red pizzas on my arms without leather ...
Pics of boots, jacket has holes on right arm and shoulder protection.
in other news, I got my tank off and I'm working on cleaning the carbs out.

I don't know that you necessarily need to wear leather, but it's important to stay protected. I got a draft jacket with padding on the inside, wear leather boots/ jeans and a helmet/ full fingered gloves 100% of the time that I ride.
Good to see that you turned out ok Nabla.

you couldnt be more rite on the leathers/protective gear. i just hit a deer comin home from work doin bout 65mph monday nite. i was wearin a mesh cut off and gym shorts. u dont have to tell me im stupid. had a nice icon jacket but an ex-gf stole it and never got around to gettin the new one. anyways the road rash is hell. im sittin here in bed all wrapped up. i was unbelievably lucky. no broken bones or anything. just the road rash, mostly on my back. the past five days tho all ive been able to think is if i was just wearin at least a jacket, i'd have next to nothing for injuries. not to mention hospital bills. at least i always wear the helmet which saved my life. i beg the rest of you to learn from this. its not worth it.
hey how the hell do i get pics from my phone to the internet? do i need some memory card or somethin. just thought some pics of the road rash might help convince the non-believers

My first bike. Got a great deal on it, I think. Most riding will be highway, that's why I settled on a bigger bike. Balanced very well, too. Felt lighter than the Shadow 750s I sat on.

So how did you guys get into riding? I have never ridden but would love to have a motorcycle to mainly take long trips on. Any advice on how to get into it

Take the MSF class, get a small, old, used bike such as a Ninja 250/500/650, learn to ride that then upgrade.

Never wanted one until about 2-3 months ago. Then just decided to do it. I kept seeing them pass by my living room window. Plus, the mpg would be way better for my commute to work. Right now I'm getting ~14.5mpg mixed driving. With a bike I'll be getting 45mpg mixed driving atleast. Won't pay off this year, but I'm looking long term.

Listen to the advice that was posted earlier. Take the MSF course first. That's of primary importance.
The main issue with me is the finances. I am somewhat tight with my money and I only have about 3000 to spend. Is this enough to get me a good starter sportbike.

My dad rides a Vulcan and he likes it a lot. Good luck with the new bike, and stay safe!

I've heard nothing but good from them. It seems like anyone that's been on one likes it. It was between this and a V-Star. The V-Star was nice but felt way heavier than the Vulcan, even though it was a smaller bike. What kind does he have?

he has no clue and the wrong mindset, he won't listen to logic, which is, get a Ninja500, ride it until it is not enough bike, then think about upgrading

1985 Harley Davidson FXR Custom here.
Just bought it.
My first real bike.
I've had several dirtbikes when I raced motocross, but sold my last one to get a 2004 Polaris XC 600 snowmobile.

2008 Suzuki DRZ 400 SM. Rode motorcycles/atv's growing up but didn't get the urge for a motorcycle until gas hit $4/gallon last summer. The bike is blast to ride!
How do you like that movable backrest, that's a Kawi 1500/1700 right?

those look like wicked fun, similar to the original KTM Duke that started it all, not big enough for me, but would be fun to ride, I'm sure
