    Jan Tana Questions

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me a little bit about tanning products and how much they rub off onto your clothes, etc.

I am planning on being airbrushed with Jan Tana for my show. How much of this will rub off onto my clothes as I put them on? Is there any type of "fixer" that will help it not rub off so much?

    Thanks for any input!

    tanning products

    Hi,

I have competed in about 13 competitions so I am pretty familiar with the "messiness" of stage tanning products.

I use Dream Tan 2 from the jar. I have never used the airbrush technique. However, the products they use are the same.

Any tanner you use will rub off to some extent. I have found that putting on Dream Tan then doing my make up/hair while allowing it to set/dry (30-45 min) minimizes some of it rubbing off. I also sometimes take an old towel to buff off any excess. If I am careful putting my suit/costume on, I usually get most of the Dream tan on the inside. Any that gets on the outside usually doesn't show on stage. I try to wear black loose fitting clothes on competition weekends. It does wash out. I have even washed it out of white clothes. But I would wear something dark to be sure.

Once the show is over, I get a good exfoliator and scrub as much off as I can. It usually comes off for a few days on my towel after I shower but usually not on my clothes once I have scrubbed it off.

    I hope that helps!

Thank you very much for your input! I will be changing outfits several times during the day and am concerned about ruining all my clothes.

    Thanks again!

My sister just did a show on June 26th and learned she's become allergic to Dream Tan (to the point of missing work).

Are there other options for her?

    options

I'm not sure what is in Dream Tan that she is allergic too. Some of the other products may have the same thing in it. I am not sure on what the ingredients are.

Another option would be Pro Tan.

In the past, I have also used Mystic Tan (the spray on tan tanning salons have) as a base before applying the stage tanners. I have done as many as 3 coats of Mystic Tan and gotten very dark. I only did the Mystic once for a show that was outdoors and that worked well. I found on stage it wasn't quite dark enough. However, if your sister finds that she is allergic to the other tanners, then getting as dark as she can with the Mystic may be an option.

    I hope this helps!

My sister had a hard time layering ProTan because the second application was lifting the previous one. That's why she switched to Dream Tan this time.

She had planned to be airbrushed, but at the last minute, the girl had to cancel. Hopefully she'll get to do it for the next show.

    tanning techniques

Just thought I would send you a thread to check out. It is by Brenda Kelly, and might help you out. This is the format that she and many of her teammates used when she was competing. I think it is a great formula, and still use it today.

By the way, good luck in you competition. Let us know how you do.
