Yes the earth is self aware, that's why we have seasons, each one represents a different life stage, not to mention all this smog is blocking out any harmful UV rays. It all balances out.

I do think the earth might be aware but not like a person or animal but like a plant. Plants have defenses like a pine has sap when it gets anything bored into it or some have protection from parasites. The earth might be able to protect itself in some way or another.

Think of all the things that grow from the earth so it could have characteristics of its own.
