I got an original model Powertec LS. 10 plates and it's scary. Wobbles. 14 gauge steel on the 3X3 center tube. From what you're squatting I'd look for something with at least 11 gauge.
I've made some equipment with 14 gauge and the welded tube tore off the attachment. Weld was stronger than the steel.

ok so dont get a powertech ls, thanks reps
btw if powertech is a 14 gauge and it wobbles, i would definitely need something higher then a 14 right...when the numbers go lower is it stronger or when the numbers go higher

i like because it has a good range of motion. i can go pretty low like in a barbell squat without having a bar digging into my neck. are you buying the single unit? i have the the leverage gym from B/S and it came with it. i just don't like doing calves on it. but it is also great to do shoulder shrugs.

The lower the number the thicker the steel is making it less likely to flex or tear. 11 gauge is about 1/8". Here's a chart.

Another thing about my Powertec LS. It isn't exactly square. Maybe the Chinese didn't know about squares back then. More likely they didn't have welding jigs. And the nuts and bolts seem to be grade 2. No pillow blocks or bearings on the pivot. Just bronze bushings and a big bolt. Guess that's why the equipment is so cheap. But I did see a later model that had some pressed pillow blocks.
I've modified mine to do what I want it to do. But I don't load up with anything over 6 plates anymore. Too old and joints get too sore.
