About Coffee, Tea, Tobacco and Alcohol
In The Latter-Day-Saint Church ( The Mormons ), there is a covenant called " The Word of Wisdom ", in which its members are asked to abstain from the four substances so named.
I abstain from those sustances.
Anybody else here use any of those?

I was just curious, because in the Latter-Day-Saint Church they have covenenants ( like rules of membership ), and the Word of Wisdom is one of them, when I was converted the missionaries came to my home and gave me lessons tto prepare me for baptism and The Word of Wisdom was in the second lesson, and they explained to me as members of the church we should abstain from these four substances, this rule ( or covenant was known as the Word of Wisdom ).
D&C 89:1-9
1 A Word OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion-
2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the word of wisdom, showing forth the order and will of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days-
3 Given for a principle with promise, adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints.
4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation-
5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
8 And again, tobacco is not for the body, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.
9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.

I have followed this rule ( kept this covenant ever since I was baptized *became a member ), of course we are humans like all other religions and have faults.
It's impossible for the entire membership of a religion to follow its rules to the letter without breaking any, there are those that *keep their covenants, and those that *renew their covenants.
There is inactive members and those that do not repent or (*unrepentant) which means *not to keep a covenant.
The Word of Wisdom is one of the covenants of the church.

Really D&C is a book like The Bible, in our church we use 4 books as standards to learn and teach The Bible (which is the origin of our religion) , The Book of Mormon (which is our religion), D&C and Pearl of Great Price.
The D&C Scripture translated in this dispensation (the fullness of times or modern day usage).
Means no Coffee, Tea, Tobacco and Alcohol
Just those four substances specifically.
Hot cocoa, or hot soup is ok.
"hot drinks" means coffee and tea specifically.

you're not answering any of the questions. you keep posting more, but you're not explaining WHY. coffee, tea, and wine are all good for you. they help fight diseases. i thought the body was the temple of god. so shouldn't you treat your body in the best way possible?
how is hot chocolate and soup ok, since it said "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly." soup and hot chocolate are both liquids. make some sense of this, please.

The Authorities of Our Church have Stated:
1) Coffee
2) Tea
3) Tobbaco
4) Alcohol
PERIOD!, those four and nothing else.
The Scripture Translated for modern times is just that.
You can't take the scripture I just posted and translated yourself!, It's already been translated by prophets of the L.D.S. Church!
And their translation is those 4 products and nothing else.
Why do you have to translate that scripture when it's been translated already.
and in this dispensation ( rules all members follow today ).
It's those ( *4 )! period.

Coffee substitutes are allowed, real coffee isn't. ( the one made from the coffee bean ).
Also teas? ( the one made from the tea plant is the one that's banned).

There's no 'wisdom' or 'why'!
Rules of the church.
Called covenants! ( Word of Wisdom is a covenant ) there's others.
Like Law of Chastity.

i didn't translate anything. i read the english you gave me and applied logic to it.
was this my translation? ""And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly."
no, it was from your post. i was simply making the observation that soup and hot chocolate are both liquid and hot. they are drinks.
why do you follow rules simply because some dude says you should? you should try thinking for youself sometime. it's pretty fun.
and again, "coffee, tea, and wine are all good for you. they help fight diseases. i thought the body was the temple of god. so shouldn't you treat your body in the best way possible?"
i know, it's hard to actually think for yourself, rather than copying and pasting your beliefs, but please try.

I'm with AKR on this. If something is proven to be good for you, and someone just says "you can't have that" without providing you with any reason, I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to just obey them. At least give us some reasoning as to WHY they're forbidden.

Church has rules man! Try to take a sh*t in the middle of a gym floor and see what the management does.
A church is no different from a gym, follow the rules or leave!
... ( but we don't leave the gym we leave Christ )...
...so we don't leave physically we leave spiritually ( that is what breaking a covenant is * leaving Christ ). We are members no matter what happens *in body, it's the spirit that is subject to rules, that's why we don't call it rules we call it covenants.
There is keeping your covenants, breaking your covenants and renewing your covenants.

That's fine, but if you were to ask WHY you were prohibited from crapping in the gym, they'd tell you it's a health & safety risk / hygeine risk etc etc.
What you're saying is "Do this, but don't ask why or for any explanation, just do it"

To AKR and SteR-
I hope you visited that website.
There's nothing to explain in detail here and if you want to get into detail go there.
*Case in point.
A covenant of the LDS Church is Word of Wisdom and it's the abstaining of these "4" substances:
coffee, tea, tobacco and alcohol.
