Red face New & Improving...

Hi there,
I'm new to the site and still checking everything out. I am a 34 yr old wife and mom. In high school and college I was very athletic and when I came back to the US in '96 I was probably at my fittest at 135 lbs and about 16-17% body fat. I really liked the way my body looked then, strong and toned but not too big or ripped.
The last ten years have definitely taken their toll however. I am now at my heaviest-190 lbs and have no intention of making it to 200! I have been back and forth with eating healthy and eating crap for the past four or five years and now I have made the commitment to healthy eating not just for me but for my whole family. Part of my problem was that I would buy healthy stuff for me and junk for my husband and daughter. I have now decided that if my husband wants to eat junk then he will have to buy it and keep it elsewhere, because if it's not in the house then I won't be tempted. As for my daughter, I am teaching her to crave sugar and salt by buying her the wrong kinds of snacks! That's got to stop.
I have the next five weeks off as I am changing jobs and wanted to spend some time with her this summer. I was off by myself last week during her last week of school and walked everyday, did resistance training 4 days and tried really hard to eat clean. The holiday weekend was tough and I didn't do too well there, but I still lost a pound last week. So I'll take what I can get. It's been a long time and I'm an all or nothing kind of gal so here's to a new start. I will definitely need some encouragement because even though my husband would love to lose weight himself, and would love to see me lose the weight, he is a killer with the sweets and tends to not eat all day and then want to eat from the time he gets home until he goes to bed. So I'm not really getting any help there. Wish me luck!

hey, first of all I commend u on taking the right route to health and fitness. Yes I so agree about keeping junk at home its extremely tempting. In my house, Im basically the only one on this journey which makes it extra hard and at the moment I have soda's in my fridge, chocolate chip brownies and cookies, white bread, and candy lying all over my place but truth be told I haven't had any of that stuff for ... I think 6 months now and don't really crave it anymore since its been so long I don't even remember what any of it tastes like .. hehe You'll be surprised how staying away from something does for you and your body. However there are certain things you can't force on people, it has to be something they want to do for themselves so maybe when you're husband sees the progress u make he'll want to join in also. Well goodluck to you and im sure you'll have all the information you need to get your body back to tip top shape.

Hello, and welcome. I'm brand new here myself, and I have similar goals. I think the most important thing when beginning a fitness program is consisitenct. No matter what try your very best to stay as consistent as you can. You really can't look to others to motivate you or hold you accountable. Your husband may one day decide that he's just not interested in reaching his goals at this time. You will have to keep on keepin' on. And you can do it! I wish you well, and I know that whatever obstacles come your way, you will find loads of support here.

I agree, it's going to take some hard work to undo bad habits- but it will DEFINITELY be worth it in the end.. and you can find great support here along the way.
