Question Please advice: a mishap in the gym ?

A lady was walking on the treadmill & tripped - there's a PT with her and was standing beside the tread - he stopped the machine but the woman was already down & kneeling on all fours. Then another PT came & helped her up. To my surprise, all they did was showed the poor lady how to use those buttons. Without even the slightest intention to check for any bruises or discomfort (she was wearing long pants & they didn't check her knees etc), then they let her continue to walk on the tread. I was dumbfounded - but am I over-reacted ?

I write because I'd like to hear your advice - I don't think this is right (might be wrong though!) and plan to write to the gym but greatly appreciate if any of you can kindly advice on this matter... Many thanks...

Wouldn't the lady not have been able to make it known if she was in pain at all? I know I would have.

    Wink

Thanks for writing, Alicat... I guess it's culture difference: here in HK the people don't want to show that THEY DON'T KNOW... For instance, if they don't know how to use a machine, they'll "hide" into a corner using the most "remote" machine and try to figure out themselves - they very rarely ask. But once they know, they walk into the place like they own it.... that's really funny

What I meant was she probably didn't want to act weak in front of the large crowd in the gym. Ah well....

Here in America, people are sue happy. The gym should have filled out an incident report to have a record of no apparent injuries and to cover their own @$$ later. You never know what people will try. Look at the guy who tried to sue McDonalds because he was overweight...the lady that sued McD because she spilled coffee on herself. It's best to protect yourself.

I imagine most people suffer a bruised ego more than anything else when falling off a treadmill.

At the very least the PT should have ASKED if she was okay or injured.

Anyway, I believe the woman herself should be the one to complain to the gym.

although this is true, every gym ive ever been too has forced me to sign a release. Does anyone here remember all the stuff they had to sign? they are pretty safe as far as lawsuits go. they would have to do something reckless and/or negligent. In other words if the PT pushed you off of the treadmill, then you will get paid. Or failure to fix or label broken equipment thereby resulting in injury.

They should have at least checked her out though. that should go without saying.
