Gym Pet Peeves
Do you ever go to the gym for a great stress relieving work out and leave more pissed off than when you got there?? I'd love to hear everyone else's pet peeves. I have so many it's hard to narrow it down:not racking your weights when your done, breaking in on someones machine/weights, someone cussing without regard for those around, not wiping down sweaty/greasy machine and the list could go on. So let me hear from you guys!!

People who eyeball you while you are doing your workout because they want your rack, bench, or machine.
PT's who put their trainees through ridiculous and potentially harmful exercises.
The manager of the place hawking everything he can on you as soon as you enter the door. (PT sessions, supplements, family add-ons, etc.)

Swiss Balls in the free weight area... warmup jackets in colors not found in nature left draped over the squat rack... 18-year-olds who start their workout with cheat curls...
Then again, at this point after a session I don't think I ever have enough adrenaline left for pissed off...

The only thing that really pisses me off is people who dont invite you to work in on a machine while they are resting. No excuse for that unless you are resting <30 seconds between sets.

grrrrrrrr, yes, I hated this when I used a gym. Especially people who rest for like 10 minutes between sets. But now that I work out at home I only have to run my 2 year old and our beagle off.

People using the only good power cage in the gym for pullups, stretches, curls, and stuff they could do a million other places.
Slobs who don't re-rack the weights
Gym managers who don't repair equipment

I HATE it when I walk into the weight room and the lazy bastard who was there before me has just left everything laying where he used it last. I want to cuss him out but the neighbors would call the looney bin if they heard me yelling at myself!

People that leave their towels and water bottles on a treadmill or bike while they do something else and think they can put these on "hold" til they get back.
I wanna bring my wife in for a simple workout to see if she likes the place, but I won't cause I know the staff will hound her and try to get her to sign a contract. Leave her be, if she likes it, she'll come back and sign. If you bug the crap out of her she will not come back and I will advise her not to. Give her one free workout without all the pressure.
Bigger guys that stare at me when I am struggling with a lighter weight. I am only 150 lbs. I can't put up the weight that your 225 lb. body can.
Personal trainers that are more concerned with hitting on a girl than actually training her. Give her what she is paying for.

The main reason I work out at night, usually around 7:45/8 p.m. That's when the nighttime hardcore crowd tends to be there. I don't wanna work out when everyone's socializing and draping themselves decoratively on the equipment.

I've tried the commercial gyms. I just can't work there. Too much talking, waiting for equipment, time to workout, disruptions, money.
I have a very modest gym in my garage. I have to work hard to do some things that would easier with a special machine. I kinda like that though. It is hot, and I have the place to myself. I sweat, and feel great doing it. The music is what I want to listen too. I am in and out, in about an hour to 90 mins. The refreshments are free and delivered by the caring staff. All I have to do is yell, "Hey! bring me a big cup of water" Shortly after that a staff member (daughters) appear, roll eyes and say, "here!"
Why would I go anywhere else?

I hate it when people fill their water bottles from the 'tall' water fountain when other people are waiting. At least use the short one that most people don't use! I usually try to stop for a quick drink in between exercises.
I hate it when trainers tie up equipment while they have the client superset with something else.
I hate it when people tie up the squat rack doing stretches, bicep curls, or other non-squat stuff.
I got really angry once when a girl was taking up one of the bench press stations to do light dumbell work, when there was an open flat bench not 3 feet away! The other two bench press stations were in use at the time of course.
My other peeves have been pretty well coved: not reracking weights, hogging machines, etc.

At my old gym that used to happen - I'd hit the place after a crappy day at work and just wanted to trash myself and have a good workout, and the place would be packed out. Then I'd be having to either wait for equipment or do things in a different order to what I wanted to, or as a last resort, sub another exercise in. There were times when I left the place feeling angry !!
Since I moved to a different gym that kind of thing never happens. But as the only female in the free weights area, I really notice how much swearing (cussing) there is in there. And its not just the young guys. I'm not particularly offended, I swear myself sometimes, but not every 3rd or 4th word. Effing this, effing that ..... sheesh, expand your vocabulary people!

my biggest peeve is not racking weights & leaving them on the floor - I don't mind if the bar's on the pins but it's a major PITA to try & pull of plates from the floor when I can't lift the bar
... the swearing comments .... I'm very guilty of quietly swearing at the weights sometimes
annoying - the time I started a set in one of the cable stations only to have some woman walk over & tell me she'd been using it. uh-huh. and that's why i saw her chatting up some guy for the last 10 minutes or so. i just smiled, apologized and asked if I could work in - "No. you just go ahead. I'll go do something else". and back to the guy she went

people who don't put away their weights or don't put them away correctly....... nothing worse then u go in and wander around the gym trying to find the weights when ur in between sets ...it was so bad at the gym that i did that first thing when i came in...... put away the weights and put the weights back where people could find them.......its been much better since new ownership came in

Since I am a trainer at the gym now I try not to let things bother me.
Some thing that bother me, but arent anyones fault would be like when I am training a client. I have the workout written down ahead of time. lets say there are 10 people in the gym...almost empty with a million dollars worth of equipment. Sometimes the first 5 machines or stations I have written down are taken and ONLY those 5, lol.
other peeves. When you are using a machine and you are maybe doing calves or soemthign on a tight time schedule.....but you risk a quick trip to the water fountain. Boom, you just lost your machine to Ernest Hemingway or soem other old dude who plaid socks who insists in sitting on the machine in between his 4 sets of 20.
I made a few music cd's and brought them to the gym....so I have sort of "ascended" to being one who can touch the stereo, lol. Which is nice and comes in handy. The owners get tired of walking across the floor and hitting play or looking for another cd. So usually when I come in to workout I ease over and throw in one of my 80s compilations or mixed rock cds. but sometimes I delay for a minute or two and, yep, one of the owners or managers goes and hits play again on the same stooped looping dance music cd that I have heard 9 times that day and 1.32 million times altogether.
other pet peeves that trainers might understand. When you see some new people in the gym and you think to approach them about training but you want to be cool and give them a chance to get their foo tin the door etc before you jump on them....but nope, another trainer doesnt extend the same courtesy and boom, he gets them. I dont like the fact that you almost have to be rabid to speak to new people before someone else does.

indeed...I see this everyday
of course, AS BAD are the ones who actually ARE in decent shape but u see them with the McDonalds shake for lunch.
as a trainer a pet peeve concerning other trainers is how they try so hard to draw attention to themselves as they train their clients. like counting out loud every rep with increasing intensity as they have the client to bw standing toe raises etc...they may as well get a megaphone and yell 'look at us, look at us'
but then when they do get your attention they are doing the silliest workout imaginable
---
other trainer peeves...trainers standing by watchign as clients use sucky form. One of the worst offending exercises is the lat pulldown. Why do they stand there and say nothing while women pull 30 lbs down and touch the bar to their crotch almost. thats not a pulldown.
One day I was in their and this couple was working out right by the office door for the "trainers" office. They looked like they knew what they were doing so I was changing shoes etc and I looked out and this guy across the gym was doing some super wack version of pulldowns. So I laughed and they looked over their and I was like "the guy on the pulldowns". So they said "is he one of yours?". I was very happy to be able to truthfully say "trust me, you wont see one of my clients using form like that"

pretty much the only peeve I have in a gym is going to the water fountian and seeing a big loogie in the drain part. Especially during allergy season and it is too thick to go down the drain.

Mine is when they talk around a machine you may need. The way I do my workouts I can work around it but it pisses me off because that is no respect for others. Who cares who Ernest screwed the other day anyway. I don't. Thank God for IPODS

Oh, WOW, I've never heard someone farting over their headphones but that would be really funny! Another pet peeve is watching a High School coach bring in 2 bus loads of basketball players and watch them do incorrect and dangerous form on squats and lat pulldowns. By the way...while does it seem like 75% of High School coaches are overweight??

our gym PT's/sales staff without fail will buy 5 or 6 pizzas and set them on the tables 4 feet behind the rows and rows of treadmills & stairmachines . sucks to be beating your ass down or grinding out the last 20 mins of cardio smelling pizza . its like dante's 7th level of hell . talk about willpower...
i cant complain about my gym anymore. for all its faults its pretty damn good . ESP after i read about all the bull**** that goes on at Planet Fitness.
go look em up . Planetfitness.com , its what some people think is the future of gyms . no squat ranks , 60 MAX dumbells , no deadlifts . drop a weight get booted... bleh bleh bleh
cruise through this thread , look at some of the things they do LOL http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...planet+fitness
i love Golds Gym

#1: People who leave a pool of sweat on equipment and don't have the decency to wipe it off.
#2: People who hover in the their cars in the parking lot aisles so they can score a close parking spot during peak gym hours. C'mon people, you are going to the gym to EXERCISE. You can't bear the strain of walking an extra 100 feet???
