I was thinking of upping my dosage of flax seed oil form 2 tablespoons to maybe 6 or so. Is there any problems that could arise from taking too much flax, besides maybe having to run to the toilet more often.
One possible side effect would be upsetting the balance of your diet in terms of fats (i.e., ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids, which should be 1:2), though it is more often that people consume too much Omega 6 instead of Omega 3.
Finally someone who knows something about flax.
Too many omega 6's are a bad thing. The north American diet has too many omega 6's in the first place and to supplement it on top of that isn't the smartest thing to do. If there is too much of it, it becomes flamitory instead of anti-inflamitory. It has been linked to increased risk with certain types of cancers. The north American diet is also defficient in omega 3's. Stay away from flax, it has omega 6's and short chain omega 3's. Your body needs long chain omega 3's which are found in fish oil. Your body can convert the short chian to long chain however it is very inefficient. Use a good pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Fish oil contains only long chain omega 3's (EPA and DHA)
