How can I get off Protein Powder and keep the muscle mass I gained on it?

About 2 months ago I started taking protein powder and doing lots of extra squatting. Since then I have gained about 10 pounds of lean muscle mass. And now I am 230 lbs. at 5 ft 8 1/2 inches tall. I am worried that if I stop taking protein powder, that I will lose some of the extra muscle mass that I gained within the last 2 months.

What can I do to keep the extra muscle mass without taking protein powder?

Are you sure you don't mean 3 pounds of muscle and 7 pounds of fat?

If you want to build muscle and keep it you should always have a diet RICH in PROTEIN...SO DON'T EVER...AND I REPEAT....EVER stop using a protein supplement unless it is a week or two before a bodybuilding contest.

Why would you want to go "off" protein powder?

Its like cycling milk, or steak, or chicken.

But if you really want to, just compensate for the amount of protein you were getting in the powder by eating the same amount in whole foods.

How could you gain a significant amount of mass on protein powder that you couldn't from eating an extra piece of chicken and a bigger glass of milk? If it was possible, eat an extra piece of chicken and a bigger glass of milk to "maintain" the mass.

P.S. If it's lean mass you gained, you shouldn't lose very much anyways.

Most people don't rely on protein powders for significant gains.

Its more a matter of being more convient(easier to drink a shake, than to eat a chicken breast when your not hungry), or cheaper(how else can you find 20 grams of high quality protein that cheap), or even for recovery sake.

If your bulking then you should use the powder along with eating the extra chicken or burger.
