Depends on what you want. The EZ bar varies your grip slightly which will vary the effect the lift has on your muscles. Rotate what grip you use and see what you need or works best.

    Peace

an E-Z bar will eliminat some wrist strain, but the str8 barbell will allow full bicep contraction

Yeah if hammer curls are for working the forearms, then I found that rotating the wrist the other way slightly works the biceps better. Therefore, a straight bar that keeps your hands in that position works the bi's much nicer. IMHO.

I agree. When I switched to a straight bar, I noticed a much better contraction and pump.

Using a straight bar will work your biceps more then the E-Z-curl bar will.
While the circumstances of life make some decisions more likely than others, and at times almost force your hand, the reality is that each person is responsible for his or her own exercise program’s results. You decide which exercises you use, how you perform them, and how often you train. You decide when you quit a set, when you go to sleep, how well you eat, and whether or not you cut corners in general. Though life’s circumstances influence those decisions, and test your resolve and stickability, you alone are responsible for your progress in the gym. The buck stops with you. -- Stuart McRoberts

    Question

I have found the EZ Curl bar to be less of a strain in my aging wrists, but as with most things, it's a matter of personal preference. I just bought a "Super" EZ Curl bar which adds even more angle to the hands during curling exercises. So now I swap between the two every couple weeks. I haven't done straight bar curls in some time. I even use an 'angled' bar when doing concentration curls on cable. Maybe I'm just becomming a pussy, but it just plain feels better to me.

I may have to go back to straight bar curls with my new preacher bench because the slot at the bottom for holding the bar doesn't appear to want to hold either of my EZ Curls bars - drat.

    Cool

I would go for the e-z bar. The barbell gives un-natural bend on ulna(the long bone on the inside of the forearm). If you dont get the same pump on the e-z as you do with the barbell and you want to substitute the barbell for the e-z then add some concentation curls hammer curls Alt seated dumbbell etc.

    Just a little sugestion.
