    Unhappy Pull-up question

My question is, what to do if I can't do a single pull-up? I have been standing on something to get myself to the top of the pull-up, then trying to let myself down slowly. The first time, I kept dropping like a rock lol. But now I can let myself down slowly for the first few. So am I wasting my time with these or is this what I should be doing? Could these "let-downs" be the reason I seem to be making progress? I am also doing deadlifts, one arm DB rows, DB curls, and hammer curls on my back/bi day.

Keep doing what you're doing, and yes what you are doing already is the reason you're able to do more of them. You'll be able to do pull-ups soon if you keep it up.
If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you always got.

Most gyms have an assisted pullup machine. Consider using that if it's available. You'll be off of it in no time.

Use assisted pullup or lat pulldown till you can handle your bodyweight.

you could try using straps or gloves too.

I used to find pullups hard due to my grip and by using straps my pullups have improved.

I know some people will say that straps are useless and you will end up with weaker forearms but what you have to remmeber is that pullups are a back exercise not a forearm exercise.

And you can always do some static holds or farmers walk afterwards.

Lat pull downs can really help, but only with strict form - none of this rocking and exaggerated leaning back of the torso.
Consider doing these with the negatives that you already do.
    Keep trying.
