bulking/cutting diet for vegetarians
Help!
Does anyone have any suggestions for a vegetarian bodybuilder? I am currently bulking for my first competition. I use whey protein and can eat cheese. I've never tried tofu.
I also need any ideas on diet for cutting time (which starts in July) since I don't eat meat, fish, chicken or whole eggs. I can force down egg whites if they are buried in flavour and whole wheat bread.
Help!

Former vegetarian here. It can be hard, be forewarned.
I'd use the tofu sparingly while bulking but break it back out when cutting (up until the last few weeks). If you use whey, go crazy on that, and I imagine you're not opposed to milk. Peanut butter, avocados and nuts are your friends for healthy fats, and eat beans until you can eat no more. The fiber is invaluable, plus they have a good amount of protein. Focus on black beans and kidney beans.
If you don't like egg whites, don't force yourself. Enjoy tons of leafy vegetables.
Cut time is tough. I never cut while a vegetarian.

Thanks
Thanks guys. I appreciate the suggestions and the link. it's hard trying to figure out the right foods and amounts especially for cutting.
I've never tried tofu. Any suggestions on how to cook it (to make it reasonably tasty) during the cutting phase? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Actually I really like tofu in a wide variety of dishes. Some examples that I've seen it in :
With firmer tofu you can slice it into strips and cook with vegetables. Also with this type of tofu you can stuff it with different fillings.
Softer tofu can be broken up / cut into larger cubes and put into some type of broth with other vegetables and seasonings.
Even if you search the web you'll find plenty of great recipes.

It's probably best in stir fry.

You can put Silken tofu in shakes.
You can fry firm tofu in a pan with mushrooms and onions and put turmeric or parprica on it. Similar to eggs.

Tofu block, firm (or soft), a handful of diced leeks, small amount of soy sauce, bonito flakes (katsuobushi) - should be available at Whole Foods or Chinese/Korean markets. Also possible to use "aonori" or "green laver" - a type of seaweed - as topping. Serve chilled.
It is also possible to make a byproduct of tofu production, called "Yuba" by the Japanese, by boiling soy milk at high temperature. After a while a sort of "skin" will develop on the top as it solidifies. Pull off this top layer using chopsticks or whatever and eat it. Tasty on its own or used as a sort of meat substitute...it's fairly resilient and shouldn't fall apart.
