Alot of people I know don't like it. I'm always like, WTF? The effects though, are individual.
Many don't smoke it because they think it is really harmful, or that you will become an idiot slob by taking it (although both of these stereotypes seem to be dissolving).

Smoking weed probably isn't any worse, health wise, than tobacco or alchohol (both legal) but buying and smoking weed does have some drawbacks...
- One, it is illegal. Being caught purchasing marijuana or having it in your possession can create some serious legal problems some people would rather avoid.
- To those who care, marijuana can lead to lung or throat cancer.
- Some individuals experience panic attacks when they use marijuana.
- Most people experience a drop in motivation after they use this substance.
There is also the influence of society that this drug is "wrong" and that may influence many not to begin. Some people also claim that marijuana is a precursor to much more harmful drugs, such as cocain or heroin. The argument is that if you start with Marty Jane you may end up hooked on heroin.
I'm personally more of a Libertarian. Let people do them. Tax drugs and use that to help educate people and help those who wish to recover. While certainly some people who might not have otherwise taken drugs might do so - and they might even end up ruining their lives -- but you need to compare that to what the criminal drug trafficing does to society already.
Now, while I am more Libertarian and think drugs should be allowed -- what I do not understand is people who think you ought to be out there smoking dope. I've done it before. It's OK, I guess - but I'm at a point now in my life where doing drugs at parties really isn't a driving concern or motivation for me. My stance is: People should NOT be doing them, but it's not the Governments place to tell them they can not.

Some people don't like to smoke anything, because they are worried about their lungs. Some people catagorically refuse to do drugs. Yet others don't do it because it is illegal. And others don't do it because it doesn't make them feel good. I don't smoke weed anymore because it lost its positive effect on me.
