hey guys, when i first starting bench pressing about a year or two ago, i did not feel any shoulder pain at all. but now i noticed that when i bench press, i feel a very intense shoulder pain. it is felt at the joint and is very painful. i have enough strengh to bench the givin amount, but the pain really gets in the way.
the pain is only felt on the first set, and sometimes the second, but by the third and onward, no more pain is felt and its as if there was nothing wrong at all.
is this just a way for my body to warm up?

Possibly. You may also have torn a sheath in your shoulder. I find that I get pain also after a week or two of intense lifting. The sheath tears because of stress. Its nothing serious, unless your in chronic pain. But it takes a while to heal up properly. Take a break from BPing for around a week, 2 weeks tops. Let your shoulder recover then hop back into it.
Just out of curiosity, how often are you lifting and what is your warm-up like?Owe more reps to:

This sounds like an AC injury, or the early stages of Osteolysis... Where the first red flag is a pain that feels like it's in the Anterior Delt, and occurs on pressing motions... The AC joint's primary job is to transfer force from the limbs to the torso during pressing motions...
Usually due to an improper deloading scheme... If you let it go too long untreated, unrested and unhealed, it will require surgery...
Best to go to a doc, get a referal to a specialist and have him shoot the good old 4 (Or better yet 6) point X-ray.6'4"

I would def say it is AC injury, and get it checked out asap, may need an MRI, shoulders are tricky things along with the back. I personally cant do any type of bench work, with barbells, because it locks my shoulders into a certain range of motion which is uncormfortable for me. I use dumbbells and it has no effect on my shoulders.

i have taken breaks before, usually around 3-4 days. and i notice that the pain does go away which makes me pretty happy, but it'll come back a few days after if i keep continuing to bench press.
my warm up is usually just stretching my arms for a minute, and then benching just 145 10 times. like i said, it hurts on the first set, but after that, it doesnt hurt anymore. when i move up in weights, which is around the 2nd or 3rd set and onward, its as if the pain was never there to begin with.
i hope it isnt AC. benching is my core workout and it would kill me if i had to stop.

ok i just read a short article about shoulder pains which talk about range of motion (ROM)
i have a very short ROM for the bench press, which is having the bar about 2-3 inches off my chest. but for the bench pressing i always though u had to go as close to your chest as you can. this probably put alot of stress on my joints.
i guess i'll heal up and stop going so low? kinda sucks though cuz not touching your chest is kinda frowned upon.
