need advice on keto...
Hiya all..
I have a girlfriend... yes i know.. shocking... she's an educated lady working in the caretaking of older and disabled people, so she knows a fair bit about nutrition.
But upon hearing about this keto diet, she really is standing on her hind legs and snarling at it... she doesn's like the sound of it at all..
So i could use some good references and explanations on why it's good.
Her primary concerns are :
1 : isn't the cholestorol going to be sky high and very unhealthy?
2 : That much fat can't be healthy.
So i would be thankful for any good insight you can give me about this, so i can answer her in a meaningful way.

Well Keto is probably not to good for a 78 year ol' guy in a nursing home...I'm sure he doesnt' use his walker to shuffle to the gym for some serious lifts...This is more for someone who is a bodybuilder, athlete ect...So I'm sure she wouldn't understand it...
The stats don't lie...it is great for lowering lipid levels and it is actually very healthy...A diet rich in simple carbs is the one that will raise triglycerides and basically make you a stroke patient waiting to happen....
I'm just saying..she's probably freaking out a little because she is used to a sedentary geriatric's diet...this is not considered "the norm"

Tell your girlfriend that this diet was originally developed to treat heart disease, the weight loss was just a bonus. It has been shown by lots of research (some of which set out to discredit it) that it improves all the markers for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis and a host of other modern diseases.
Just about everyone on the forum has seen blood pressure and cholesterol levels go down, blood glucose levels drop, triglycerides go way down, strength and general well being increase.
I've been eating this way (eggs for breakfast, steak for dinner, high fat snacks in between) for five years now, and I've got perfect blood work.

Pure coincidence, I went to have a cup of tea and read the paper, and found an article about how Rickets was making a comeback in young babies, because their mothers were eating a low fat diet that left them deficient in vitamin D.
It recommended that anyone thinking of getting pregnant should eat lots of oily fish, fish oil, egg yolks, liver, nuts, butter and cheese to improve their vitamin D status. Keto, anyone?
