Need Tanning Help!
My first comp is 7 weeks out...and I was wondering if anyone can give me any hints/tricks to applying stage color. Best products, how many and types of applications, how dark you may appear to know you have applied enough?? Anything??
Any help you guys can give me would be great

i am not sure if girls do the same, but all guys use pro tan + dream tan.
about 3-4 coats of pro tan and then about 2 coats of dream tan. you need to get really dark...

You need to start applying it at least the day before because you have to put the coats on in thin layers so you don't build up the product to thick and blurr out your muscles. Most people use two products because one gives a good base for the tan and the other is the darker finish color for the stage that will wash off very easy. It is also very, very smart to get a face and hand bronzer that is specifically for that purpose, the body colors will make your face look like charcoal, some people actually use the makeup that some black people use to cover skin imperfections, you just go to a makeup store and color match for the tanning product you are using. You are dark enough after you think you are dark enough and then apply two more coats so that you think you look stupid dark, stage lights are harsh and if you only have what looks to be a nice tan you will look white on stage, you have to be dark, dark, but again, apply the product in thin repitive coats so you don't make it bulky. A lot of women use Jan Tana products, you may want to check that website.

This product is much much better than protan, does not stink and does not have alcohol that dries out your skin.
http://www.elitecompetitiontan.com/
The new jan tana products are great as well.....
oh, and if you think you are dark enough, add another coat!

You have to exfoliate, if you have rough skin anywhere the tanning product will bunch on it and look strange, the most suprising spot to me is my shoulder blades, they get rough skin from always being a contact point when laying down I guess, but you have to exfoliate and be very careful around your knees, elboys, ankles, etc. when applying the tan, it probably is best to shave for the last time on Thursday for a saturday show, some might say Wednesday, because the shaving can draw water to the skin, any stuble that is back by Saturday will not be noticable under all the tan - don't worry about that.

Buy a crap load of latex gloves and smear away, you can use a brush, but using your hands works much better. I have my wife do it, there are too many spots you can not get on your own, so find somebody you are not shy around and have them do it for you, you can do your own face and hands, but the rest of it you are better off having help - really no way around it. Good luck!

Looks good; nice progress- like any competition toward the last 4 weeks it's all about diet, water consumption/depletion & carb manipulation.
I have approx. 7 weeks until my show. Good Luck!

I've been told to get 2 spray tans the week before... a lot of places offer extra deep tans...they go on really evenly, so you need less competition color.
Also, hit the tanning beds twice weekly starting 6 weeks out.
My stage coach said, 2 spray tans, pro tan the night before and dream tan the day of...
Hope this is helpful!

It helps show the muscles and striations better.
The stage lights are so bright, that if you don't tan, you'll fade out.

this may sound crazy but i know a guy that put on a couple coats of pro tan on and than got someone to spary PAM cooking spray on him. it looked good. i recommend that if you are to try this make sure you do it now and see how it looks.

FYI the alcohol in Pro Tan is designed to drive the DHA(self Tanner) into the skin. All other types of prodcuts are maekups, meaning they sit on top of your skin. Most of these tend to make you look green and also cover up deep cuts and striations. Pro Tan has been the best selling product in the world since 1984 and Although there are great products that might work great in conjunction with but few are much better then Pro Tan. The key to a great contest tan is to have a nice light matte finish thats what the judges want.
If anyone needs and tips or tricks on application you know where to find me
