~~~ Train Horns ~~~
This is the kit I am looking at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130114337933
Anyone have one of these on their ride? I have been looking into them and I think I will be getting one haha. It will be tons of fun for the summer and I have heard from a couple people it has saved them from a couple wrecks.
There should be enough room here right here inside the bumper
My question is anyone with experience with these is the compressor loud? How do you like it? Any tips?
Also any compressor I should look for because I do not want a loud one.
Thanks
Reps for decent responses
Can you repeat that a little louder?
You wanna wear a hearing aid by the time you're 30?
On second thought, stupid question. I'm sure you've already got the 18" ers in the trunk?
I would want a deeper sounding horn than that - but it still sounds cool. Youve seen that video of those people driving around town making pedestrians jump havent you!
I had a boat horn in my Civic, but the damn thing kept breaking. It was fun while it lasted.
I have some on my truck. You will find your compressor turning on a lot with that small tank. Here are some pics of my horn setup...
You can see my tank here....
Here is basically the same setup as mine...same seller too...
edit: You aren't going to find a quiet compressor. The link there has a Viair 280c but my compressor is a Viair 350c. Little stronger and faster fill.
Here is one possible outcome...
those horns are 148-152 decibels according to the hornblasters.com website..
According to the CDC, "Sounds that are 120 dB or louder can be painful and can result in temporary or permanent hearing loss."
They could have been charged with Battery on a law enforcement officer (hello felony charges), possibly resulting in permanent disability, and their car could have been forfeited, becoming property of the state.
I have the same horn as the link in the OP, only with the 5L air system
It's loud as hell and will scare many many many people, I've almost died laughing at some of the reactions
3L is going to be too small, but seige engineering is a great company to buy from.. they're USA quality made, not some china knock off and have big air lines ports and valves.
btw their site is www.siege-engineering.com
also the 5L tank fills quite quickly from 90 - 120 psi (probably under a minute) and whenever it goes below 90 psi it will automatically fill. I didn't want it running when the car was off though, so I put a toggle switch on the power wire and mounted it on the closed ash tray
I had a clip but I can't find it anywhere. It literally souns like a train. As far as compressors, the only way I can see it being quiet is that your truck has sounddeadner all over the walls and you make sure the tank/compressor combo is on a piece of rubber or foam to eliminate some vibration. A quiet compressor won't be able to obtain a high psi.
you can get sound and video clips from hornblasters.com I have a 3 horn setup on my chevy crewcab dually. Scaring the poop out of people is so much fun. Just dont be crazy with it, watch out for older people cause it would probably give em a heart attack. younger kids and women are the best, they scream the loudest! haha.
i don't have any pictures.. The horn is mounted pointing down (it's louder this way) behind the grill of the car (between the front bumper and the radiator) and then I just have wires running to the trunk where the compressor is and to the dash is where I mounted a horn button.
the compressor is a compressor, so it's not whisper quiet, but there's no getting around that. I don't care about the noise personally, but it is noticeable outside as well as inside the car.
The compressor is a small price to pay to have a loud horn. I actually want to get a stronger compressor and push 200psi, but I don't think my horns can handle it.
edit: MEASURE the room you have in the front of the car and compare it to the horns! Leave some room for the mounting bracket and room to work. (If you didn't already take that into consideration)
