    Peanut Butter and Jelly?

Is this okay as a pre-workout or late night snack? I do use white bread, and I know peanut butter has some fat in it, but it also contains protein, and makes me thirsty for milk, where I get another 20 grams of protein from. The Bread, Peanut Butter, and Milk together is probably a whole 30 grams of protein, some carbs for energy, and tastes good.

It's not junk food is it? Could I eat Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwitches once a day while trying a fairly clean bulk and be okay?

fat is good, try using whole wheat and sugar free jelly, also might not want it pre or post workout, the fat slows absorbtion of nutrients, however any other time its a perfect snack

I think it's perfectly fine. Listen to the other two posters above. Whole wheat bread, natty pb and sugar free jelly. Makes a pretty tasty snack. I'll have one every now and then.

I sometimes have a PB sammich 3 hours before bed because it's very calorie dense. But like the dude above me said, don't have it post-workout.

    Ok,

    1) Have you ever seen Smukers Sugar Free Jam?

    2) It's not a question of "chemicals". Hense the "sugar free" aspect..

hmmm well actually i believe it is sweetened with splenda...and the calories arent necessarily the bad part its the actual sugar.

splenda isnt really THAT bad for you, if at all. a lot of studies contradict themselves.

no sugar added doesn't = sugar free.

if you're not preparing for a competition/trying to get down to 3% bodyfat, i think normal jelly is just fine.

It's the safest sweatner to date. It uses suraclose which has 2calories per gram, and it doesn't even get processed by the body.

I'd say a PB&J sandwich would be best consumed pre workout over any other time of the day. Studies show fat intake before working out increases fat lost during workout. Also, the carbs are beneficial for making sure glycogen is topped off and glucose in the bloodstream while working out. And to top it off, the incomplete amino acid profiles of grain and peanut butter mix to make a really complete protein. Might wanna add a bit of whey in there as well though.

Personally on a daily basis I'll stick to oats+whey preworkout and sometimes some added EVOO.

splenda hasn't even been approved for more than 10 years, so i'm not writing it off as safe yet. i'm not opposed to artificial sweeteners or anything, if i have a choice, i'll go for stevia.
