I think the reason why I don't go heavier is that the weight scares me. It is more or less an unantural act to hold 400+ pounds over your chest. This might be an answer to the question of would you press 600 if you could or press less. I don't use spots and work completely alone. 315 use to scare me, but now I could almost set it on my chest and scratch my nose. 405 gives me the fear. I guess this is what progress is like without the rhoids, long and slow.

Yeahh...
I'm gonna bump this just for the heck of it!
Arnold is/has been/always will be my role model when it comes to body building. Yes I understand he juiced, who cares what he benched. Years later we are still talking about his lifting career...he must have did something right...its just people now a days wont to disagree with anything that they can...freedom of speech or some **** they want to abuse...
Thats just me though. He worked out, he got there, he got in the movies, he is in the office. So just F*** off already.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

450lbs looks conceivable for how he looked, it's not unknown that he was powerlifting before bb, whether he was any good idk. Bb is more nutrition than actual lifting you should all realise this, strength training/training each muscle 3x a week aided him however as he was able to be less reliant on steroids and as a result he doesn't look as nasty as some of the former bbers around today. He did use roids, as do all bber's the ifbb's testing scheme is only getting about 20% of what's out there.

We will never know his true stats but his status is and undisputed legend
I doubt we will ever know most of Arnold's true stats. I expect most stats associated with Arnold (max lifts, height, other stories) are carefully exaggerated to increase his mythology and add to the legend that we all love reading and talking about. A lot (if not nearly all) Hollywood types and famous bodybuilders no doubt do the same, but few are as successful at that game as Arnold was and is. And while others play the game, I feel that Arnold usually plays it with a wink, as evidenced by Pumping Iron and his tongue-in-cheek movie moments. Whatever he lifted or supps he used, to me, Arnold's physique of the early-mid 70s is as close to perfection as any photographed human has come. Most champions since then are far bigger and more ripped, but Arnold's proportions were jaw dropping for the time and probably more so now. For e.g. his long arms and bicep insertion points made for an over-full looking muscle that most bodybuilders cannot achieve, even if they measure more inches. And I don't know what his waist measurement actually was, but compared to today's champion bodybuilders, it might as well be a myth. And let's be honest, our sport/hobby/passion probably would not be what it is today without Arnold's charisma and iconic physique.
