If you are carb depleted, it takes at least, 3 days to CHO up, I that is the bare-ass minimum. I am going to start carbing up on this Sat. for the show next saturday...

the amount of time it takes depends directly upon how many carbohydrates you consume each day of your carb up.

That is not necessarily true.... it can vary widely from individual to individual. I carbed up for three days last year and spilled over big time. I can carb up in one to two day tops and that's after going for zero for 4-5 days with a long slow decent to get there.
The best advice to anyone is to do a practice run 4-5 weeks out to see how long and how you respond to a carb loadup. When you find out what works, stay with it. If it's not broke don't fix it.

indeed, even if your glycogen stores are not fully refilled, you can still cause spill over due to water... this is why many people who do high carb ups over a few days find they hold water. I prefer to begin mine the night before the show and eat about 40g-60g carbs every 2 hours up til the show.

NATURAL 4 LIFE!
I myself did my first show on April 24th, and I had never carb loaded before...so, what I did was start loading on the Wednesday night before the show (after my last light workout), I ate carbs every other hour up to and including Saturday morning of the show...then backstage, I ate raisins, a banana and sipped water. Even tho I was ripped for the show doing this...I learned an even bigger lesson the night after my show was done and the next day (Sunday).
After the show was over, I went to a pizza joint and had 5 slices of pizza and some water. That was my pig out session for having dieted so hard and going thru all that I did! It tasted so good!
Well, here is where it gets interesting!!......I went to bed and woke up the next morning, I looked in the mirror and could not believe what I saw looking back at me! I was COMPLETELY ****ING SHREDDED...way more so than during my comp. I was insanely vascular, full as can be and tight as hell all over!! I could not believe my eyes. That PIZZA filled me out, hardened me up, and I then knew I could have been better had I done this the night before the comp. Next year, it is Pizza Hut here I come on Friday night before the show! Guess the fat and carbs did the trick! You learn something about your body all the time...and believe me, I learned plenty, even after the contest was over!
Make sure to keep a log of what you eat/ate and write down how you looked the days leading up to the contest, during the contest and afterwards, so you can refer back to them and improve next time! Good luck! Look at my pics here ---- the ones of me outside were taken the day after the contest, when I was in better condition, due to the pizza intake ---> http://www.members.shaw.ca/muscleman/show.htm .

i dont agree - i agree much more with str8 and most muscular, that it differs from person to person. i have found that 2 days (starting thursday if its a saturday show) is an excellent time frame if you are steadily taking in a moderate supply of complex carbs(e.g. sweet potato). show day, rice cakes( even spread with some light jam - good for vascularity) tend to be the go, as they are a good source of dry carbs. i have just found 3 or more days gives you an oppourtunity to spill a bit more. 2 days for me has been a much better timeframe to produce foolproof results. i think a weeks far too long, but it may work for you, so i cant knock it if thats what you find works. but if youre not sure, i feel 2-3 days is a better starting point..
